Although all eyes are currently on Activision's DJ Hero, let's not forget about the other DJ/music contender, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.
We had a chance to check out the game and the turntable peripheral ourselves awhile back, but with the game pushed out into 2010, it's time for an updated look. The latest trailer focuses on the authenticity of the controller, designed by Numark. The video compares it to real DJ equipment -- the Numark NS7 and the Akai Pro MPC.
What we don't see is the game in action. We're curious to see what Commotion Interactive, who took over development of the title in August, is up to with the game. Scratch is said to be targeted for an early 2010 release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so it can't be long until we get a chance to find out.
This is stupid, considering you can make REAL music on an MPC 1000 for under 500 bucks. Shit you can even buy those MPC pads for super cheap that plug into your computer via USB. I really don't see how playing along to some lousy beat on your console is going to be fun.
"He first came to prominence upon winning the 1992 New Music Seminar/Supermen Inc. DJ Battle for World Supremacy in New York City, becoming the first West Coast DJ ever to do so. In the same year, his turntablism collective Rock Steady DJs won the DMC World DJ Championships, establishing Mix Master Mike as one of the pre-eminent DJs in the industry. This success was followed by triumph in the 1993 DMC Championships, this time as part of a duo with DJ Qbert."
@Space Moose I use a korg padkontrol because it has a fully assignable x/y control and a low profile, that only cost me about a hundred on sale http://www.youtube.com/whormongrmuzik
This looks interesting, but it might be kinda hard to bounce back and forth between this and DJ hero, so unless the reviews are stellar I'll probably pass on this game.
Those videos you made are pretty cool. Aha I'mma studio fiend as well, hip hop though, not electronica but I still listen to a lot of mid nineties Warp stuff, Autechre, Board of Canada shit like that.
Interesting! If this gets more people into electronic music production and djing, i`m all for it. There is a whole world of fun electronic audio manipulation tools out there, and being in a career revolving around the production and engineering of electronic music myself, I can attest to Music 2000 on the PS1 being my entry-point into that world. So, i`m all for dis shit.
i have dj hero and it is very good. i really enjoy the daft punk venue. also, imo, dj hero looks much better than this game. but i do like the interactivity of scratch's peripheral. if the song list improves ( and hopefully it does ), then i will pick this up too. but i would like to see some wii support. it just makes it so much easier packing-wise. also, that bit about not needing DLC? that's just retarded because the game will get old very quickly if there won't be any new songs on it; especially if they launch it with the current list. all in all, i am kind of cautious about this one. hope it doesn't cost over a hundred dollars. but it probably will knowing the current trend of the gaming companies nickel and diming us ( M$ - l am looking @ you).
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Also the tracklist is horrid. And why no Wii support? I love playing music games on my Wii. It just feels better.
Though, like Jeffrey said, that crossfader sounds like something that will break in less than two songs.

I'm in such awe over the stupidity of your comments, that I can't even thing of what to say. Just, wow.
Also this DJ controller looks like shit. -.-

THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT. Reminds me of Crackin' DJ's motorized turntables.
