Games Radar has a video of a presentation from Activision showing off the new, improved controllers for the upcoming Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. We knew about the new look and some other features (like the removable face plates), but this video uncovers a couple more surprises Activision had in store.
There are some control and performance improvements to fret buttons, and the strum bar is now longer and easier to strum. It also looks like triggering "star power" will be a bit easier, as they have replaced the original's "roll-able" switch with an accelerometer, much like what is in the Wii's Remote.
Improvements have also been made to the controller's portability. The neck of the guitar can be removed from the body, which makes moving and storage easier. They also hint at "future possiblities" that have something to do with this feature.
Lastly, I've never heard a company down their original product more. While pitching the new controllers, this Activision rep said that the old controllers looked like "Fisher-Price toys," and called the previously included stickers "cheap" looking.
Oh, and the presenter used the word "sexy" one too many times. Creepy.
[Thanks, Justin]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I just hope the Rock Band one works with GH III fine.
My original plan was to get one Rock Band Guitar and one Guitar Hero III guitar. But after seeing this...ick.
awesome.
awesome.
sexy.
"Wow. This guy is a horrible public speaker. It was painful to watch that and find out how crappy the new GH controller will be (too damn small!). And those were some low blows to the Red Octane near the beginning of the vid. Anything to try and turn people away from RO (unsuccessfully), I guess."
That IS Red Octane. It's Harmonix that is making Rock Band separately. RO is criticizing their own work, which is perfectly fine.

Or is that Neversoft? Did they say in it that he was from RedOctane?
They made a couple references to the work they did, so I'm inferring that it's Red Octane. If it was Neversoft, they would have based their comments on an admittance from Red Octane about their earlier work, as Red Octane is still making the controllers for Guitar Hero III.
@tricoden: "Is it just me, or is Red Octane/Neversoft taking a lot of shots at Harmonix and Rock Band? Not only did they insult them here"
They ONLY commented on the make of the earlier guitars, which Red Octane made themselves.
