A Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth screen (and friends) photo

Forgive the less-than-classy use of space up there. I didn't want to stretch the above screenshot to fit Destructoid's header size requirements, and other than decorating the borders with as many pictures of my own face as I possibly could (which I was too lazy to do), Japanese girls with big boobs is all I could come up with. Of course, that made me feel like a jerk for leaving out the other 50% of the population, so I threw an alternate version of the image in our gallery.

Anyway, Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth comes out in Japan in less that a week, and all we get is this one lousy screenshot. All the mystery surrounding the game will be squashed soon enough, but right now, all we know for sure is that the game is coming to WiiWare, that Iga was at least partially involved, and that its based of the first Castlevania game for the original Gameboy.

I was just playing the original Castlevania Chronicles on PSN the other day, and it stuck me that Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth may end up being another Castlevania Chronicles game in a Rebirth disguise. So far, Iga has used the Chronicles series to refine and re-present Castlevania games that sees as deserving of more attention. I could see how the original Castlevania The Adventure could fit into that category. It's a fine game in theory, but the shabby controls and 4-bit graphics really hold it back.

As long as the controls are tight, I know this game will be worth my $8-$10, but what about you? Are you sold on this method of bringing sprite based Castlevania back to home consoles?

=/ Castlevania doesn't need any refinement. Go play Castlevania: Bloodlines. Seriously.

I still need to beat the Game Boy game. It's not a bad game, but kind of like the original Resident Evil you have to be in the right mindset to get over the idiosyncrasies- like the hard difficulty and slow-ass walking speed. I think what really does it in for me is the whip power-down whenever you get hit. It's incredibly hard to stay at full power, and thus the game requires something close to perfection in order to be beaten. Also, no subweapons. Castlevania II fixes pretty much all of that.

The first level music is pretty sweet though, especially for an early Game Boy game. One of the better less-commonly referenced tunes in the series.

I remember playing the "Castlevania The Adventure' on the GB and not liking it very much. I'm still gonna give this remake a whirl tho.

Oh and for those that are wondering, I believe that the girl on the left hand side of the image is Ai Shinozaki.

You've inspired me to make an actual picture frame much like the one you've got going here. Now I just need to figure out what picture is worthy of such a frame.

I just picked up a gameboy with this game at a fleamarket for $20. I can't even beat the first boss. I remember getting alot further when I was like 12.

I didn't enjoy this game. Ok, got that "on topic" crap out of the way. That woman on the right looks...unhealthy. Like, to the point of not being attractive to me in that pose. I am NOT a good looking guy and she looks unattractive to me.

Word. She's so thin I thin I think I can see her liver.
She'd still get it though. I'm not a fussy pup.

So, is "Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth" essentially Castlevania's "MegaMan 9?"

Someone should totally swap out the header image for the alternate header image from the gallery, since we can't delete comments.

That chick on the right IS thin, but goddamnit she's freakishly hot too. Save me hours of scouring the internet with absurd search terms and let me know their names -- f**k castlevania (and I love the hell out of C).

Awesome rack on her though.

There's nothing wrong with Classicvania as far as I'm concerned. The gimped jumping and arthritic stair walking are part of the charm; you actually have to be careful. But if a face lift might get more people to play, then I'm all for it.

Really? Nice game in theory? Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (Game Boy) was far and away the better game. Castlevania: The Adventure is one of the low points of the series. I don't see why they'd want to highlight it.

I don't know how to feel about your header, I'm torn. On the one hand I'm more than a bit saddened that the game won't feature hot asian women as borders, on the other hand they'd be a giant distraction.

I love Castlevania but sometimes it gets too much love, how about some Sunset Riders love, Konami? I think the first two GB Castlevania games were awesome. What I don't understand here is why this isn't on DSi, or better yet transferable between Wii and DSi. It would have been a nice feature to have, similar to the old Super Gameboy concept.

Man, if game borders were that Itagaki awesome, it might do wonders for the series. Everyone might try to dry hump their tvs.
