Hot off the 25th anniversary Capcom DVD that came with the latest Famitsu, the above video features plenty of Moonspeak and just a little Resident Evil 5 gameplay. Really not a huge deal to write home about but if you're anything like me, you'll take what sordid scraps you can get your grubby little hands on.
I think the most interesting thing is the appearance of non-monsterfied NPCs. I'm imagining a fully realized village, slowly overtaken by whatever sickness decides to introduce itself. Resident Evil games so far have only brought us to cities and towns post-disaster, so this could be the opening for some really cool experiences.
Whatever's actually going on, it looks gorgeous and not a little terrifying. Is it just me, or is there something about the stark sunshine that makes it even creepier than usual?

Meet the rest of the team
The reaction and attacking animations are identical to RE4, which is a problem. However, I'm assuming in the year they have left they will fix that issue.
Other than that, this looks to be utterly fantastic. I love the idea of people milling around not trying to kill you.
What I'm hoping is that as the place gets more and more infected, fewer and fewer people ignore you, until you've killed them all and it becomes a barren wasteland.
That and I hope you fight more than two enemies at a time. Although I certainly suspect you will.
It's looking absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait for this one.
I like the bit in the clip about 1:50 in where Chris walks inside a structure and the camera takes a second to adjust to the light, just like our own eyes would. A nice touch.
I think the changes in style and setting are exactly what Resi needs, I'm looking forward to this.
I really like the setting for this game, and yes I think the brightness really works in the games favor. I really like that the RE series is going to different places with their games. It gives each game a very different feel. My only worry is that RE5 will be more of the same in terms of gameplay. That isn't an entirely bad thing though. Still can't wait to play it.
Wow, RE5 is looking really great. However, one thing that annoys me about this (and nearly all games) is that there is no animation for muscular movements. While the guns, environments, and character models all look really nice and seem to animate well, I'm really taken out of the game when character's muscles don't move.
For instance, in that video Chris Redfield's triceps are always taut. If he were really swinging his arms or bracing a gun, then his tricep muscles would gain greater definition as his arms came fully open or he clench the firearm for recoil. It may not sound like a big deal, but it's a pretty important detail to make characters look more realistic--particular when developers are determined to make you play as Biff Chuck McDeathsteak in every game.
The first thing I thought when I saw the non-zombies was 'infection control' - the player having to stop zombies infecting humans by controlling the spread of the virus, maybe even having progression of the storyline tied to the percentage of the population infected (i.e. once 50% of humans are infected an event is triggered or a new character appears, but less obvious than that), which would be awesome. Then I remembered that Capcom won't do anything that cool, and it'll just be another headshot fest with survival horror buzzwords on the back of the box. Looking like a rent.
That looks real cool. I liked the slow adjustment the camera made when moving from bright sunlight to a dark room. Very nice attention to detail.
I think this game will be great. The concept of showing up before (or at least during the early stages of an outbreak) and experiencing it as it happens will be truly frightening. I can't wait for a solid release date. So then I can wait for that date. Haha.
@big filth: Don't you worry, Capcom has you covered! If Jim's other story on the front page is to be believed, you'll be able to buy ANOTHER copy of it soon enough!
Can "next-gen visuals" games starting implementing color, please? Games that revolve around black, grown, and gray are a dime a dozen nowadays....
The game itself looks a lot like RE4, which shouldn't come as a surprise. Seeing as it's still in development I don't think anyone should get too worried about anything yet.
Now, I wonder if Capcom will, after finishing RE5, start making a true new RE4-style game for Wii (aka, the market leader), instead of light-gun shooters and remakes....
I for one am totally looking forwards to RE5: Keep Darky Down.
A couple comm enters here seem to be somewhat confused, though. RE4 wasn't a survival horror, and by the looks of it neither will this be. Survival horrors are about limits; in movement, control and resources. RE4 was far more a typical action game, as evidenced by the sheer volume of enemies and the fact you're rarely in danger of running out of ammo. You could get away with calling it an action horror, but really what non-sci-fi/WWII action game isn't?
But don't expect zero resistance when this gets released. One glance at this game from someone not familiar with Resident Evil or video games in general are gonna flip at the initial "white dude killing black dudes" thing.
Just sayin. Don't get your hopes up on playing this day 1.
eh... fuck it. I would really love to talk about racism and this game again but I know there's no point, nothing can ever be wrong or sinister about video games... ever.
@Novakaine
I agree, next gen visuals could use some color...but not here. RE is a darker setting and if you go back and look at the other games they've been darker colors since the original.
@ajay42
Is it really racist? So the protagonist of the game isn't the same ethnicity as the antagonist. So what? You should view the game objectively. What about all the hispanics you kill in RE4? Nobody seemed to be bothered by that. All I'm saying is that I am "African-american"(I use quotes because african denotes nationality and I was not born in africa) and not offended by this. Why do people make such an issue out of it?
In any event, It does look like RE4: Haiti edition. That doesn't bother me because RE4 was one of my favorite games of all time, and improving on the engine/graphics while weaving another story is okay with me. I admit, however, that I would like to see some new, original content opposed to updates to old content. Maybe Chris will have some sort of limited use power or they'll expand on the close combat and handle QTEs differently.
Don't forget this game was made by the white man... just ignore the Asian looking fellow and you'll realize it's the truth and it's being made to hold down the black community and promote violence against them!
It looks great, but I really hope I'm doing more than exclusively mowing down african villagers. Even if in context it makes sense for them all to be african (ie, its set in Africa!) it's still a context I'm not too comfortable with. I don't think it's necessarily racist, but it seems a little close to the bone.
Hopefully they'll come out with new animations for hit response and falling once shot to death. Is it just me, or do the "zombies" seem much faster here than in RE4? As Chris fights two near the end of the video the one on the left seems to lower his shoulder and damn near tackle him. Suppose that being knocked prone and having to get up will become a new gameplay mechanic?
Rofl he does look like a japanese tay zonday. Dude honestly they need to tone down the chris's muscles jesus. Guy must be hanging out with barry bonds now.

Chris Redfield becomes Chris Benoit?
Also, HOLY CRAP! did you see what happens to the bodies after you kill one of them?! Look at 2:18, EWWWW! ...awesome.
:)

eh? so it doesnt look terrifying? but its creepier than usual? did you mean a little terrifying? wtf!
I think the changes in style and setting are exactly what Resi needs, I'm looking forward to this.
You've never heard that phrase? "Not a little" means, well, not a little -- as in, a lot. So I mean, it DOES look terrifying, and by no small amount.
For instance, in that video Chris Redfield's triceps are always taut. (plus I missed RE4) :(
How in the hell could you have missed RE4?! There are more versions of that game than there are gay men in San Francisco.
That looks real cool. I liked the slow adjustment the camera made when moving from bright sunlight to a dark room. Very nice attention to detail.

Hopefully they didn't pull a R6V and left out the running, as not once did I see the dude go over the speed of strut.
Oh no he killed black people! Just kidding. "

And the race controversy is stupid.

Some kill zombies while others run away!!
CHCOLAAATTTEE RAAAAAINNNNN!!!
Seriously, this game needs to hurry up and come out.
Funny that people really think this game could be racist.
Awesome is what this game looks like.
Other than that excited for it.
