It seems developer WayForward's been in the news a lot lately. First with its well-received WiWare title Lit, and then making waves with their upcoming A Boy and His Blob revival for the Wii.
Now it's been revealed that the developer is working on an exclusive title for Nintendo's portable downloadable service, DSiWare. The title in question is called Mighty Flip Champs. Players control a female heroine named Alta as she warms through chambers by flipping through them like pages in a book. The puzzle/platformer doesn't currently have a price or release date, but we should hear more closer to the launch of the Nintendo DSi on April 5.
Like WayForward, we've heard that many developers are keeping a close eye on the DSiWare service, seeing it as a way to circumvent the already crowded DS retail market. The rumor mill has also been squeaking with word of developers in talks with Nintendo about giving their older DS games second life on the service. Reportedly, Nintendo has been open to suggestions like these, which could indicate that we'll see a strong DSiWare library in the months to come.
If you've already made the decision to pick up a DSi this year, does the DSiWare service appeal to you? Or do you have different reasons for upgrading your hardware?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I am not disappointed really, I think i wil love this as WayForward is one of those real-shit game developers.
I'm not upgrading my hardware. I've never owned a portable Nintendo system so this is just me putting my toe into the water. I'm choosing it over the DS Lite because of the faster processor and more memory...though I'm going to hate myself if the spiffy PSP update comes out soon, seeing how the software library is picking up speed.
I agree. It's the ultimate sham, Nintendo upgrading the DS for the third time essentially just to support download content. "Did you just buy this award winning DS title and expect it to ship with all of it's content?! Sorry, I hope you have the DSi so you can download all of the free maps and game modes".
I can see it now.....
I personally dislike digital distribution because it makes game collecting too empty. half the fun is to fill your shelf.
Also i think you should really try out the GameBoy/Color/Advance library, its one of the best collections I have ever seen, still chopping away Slot-2 is sore for that point. Even thought they killed the chances of playing previous GB games since they modified it for DS for no real excuse at all.
I keep hearing excellent things about the Gameboy Advance library, but I wouldn't know where to start and I don't have the space for yet another shelf of games that I will pick up maybe once every 6 months once played.
Now, maybe if they were available on the DSiWare service...maybe there would be a point in it?
@Magnalon
Oh, I'm going to get the DSi, but just because I don't have a vested interest in a legacy collection. If I were a DS Fat or Lite owner, I would be pretty pissed off, especially if I had a GBA library.
Taking a step back, I can see positives and negatives with the DSiWare service.
Pros: Smaller developers getting their wares out. Older, harder to find titles available in a handy portable format. Updating software to be more feature rich, less buggy.
Negative: More companies going the way of Scamco/Bandai. More companies being lazy and releasing buggy code to be patched later. Yet another channel for shovelware.
Neutral: Updating firmware. If you're into homebrew or backing up games YOU ALREADY OWN, this is bad. If you are blatantly pirating games, this is good (for developers).
It's still a wash. I can take it or leave it.
She looks a lot like Tron Bonne if you ask me.
