A bit of graphical improvement for Sin & Punishment 2 photo

At this year's E3 Nintendo completely and utterly ignored Sin and Punishment 2. The game wasn't mentioned at their press conference and was tucked away so well at their booth that you literally had to be coming at the booth from a certain direction in order to notice it. The PR guy who took me around the booth didn't even mention that it was there. Who knows what was up since most people came away from the game with a very positive view. Since E3 we've heard next to nothing on the game either, and I would wager that it is one of the most anticipated Wii games of next year.

With this in mind, here's some news. The game is looking better -- much better. It actually wasn't looking that bad in the first place, but evidently the past few months have been used to polish it up to an even greater level of shinyness. Dengeki, got their hands on some new images from the game as part of pushing the game's Oct. 28 launch in Japan and they look great. The real interesting thing though is a comparison of one of the boss battle screens that was pointed out. The screen on the left was taken at E3, the screen on the right is from the Dengeki screens. Notice a difference? That's the magic of implementing bump mapping, and it's a magic that more Wii games need to use.

So who isn't excited for this game to finally come to the West?

This proves my point that graphics take time to get right and that it's not always the best option to maximize everything in that category. This looks great, though, especially for a Wii game.

I'm super excited for this! I just hope it's extremely brutal. I need me a good shoot em up.

"It actually wasn't looking that bad in the first place"

That first pic is horrid. Looks WORSE than last gen.

At least the new pic looks like a solid original XBox game.

I have to wonder why most developers can't seem to make decent graphics on the Wii. I mean, the GameCube could pump out some pretty games and if the Wii is even a LITTLE bit more powerful, RE4-like graphics should be the bottom of the scale on the Wii. Sadly, this isn't even close to reality.

When I saw the left screen I thought it was a PSP game.

I would spit on this game if I saw it walking down the street. Based on that screenshot, I'd have been embarrassed to play this on the Dreamcast.

I'm more excited to play this game now that there's news about it. I don't care about the graphics. I mean, the first one was ugly as sin but that didn't stop me for very long.

Guys, I know it's been a few years since the last round of consoles, but c'mon. Less than Dreamcast level? When was the last time you actually saw a Dreamcast game in motion?

I doubt this is the finished project so I'm just glad they're at least trying. Some developers would have just left it at that and limboed under the wii's low standards.

I agree, why don't more games use bump mapping? Maybe it looks too shiny? Remember the way all the first wave of 360 titles looked? Everything was SO shiny. I still think that Wii could have MUCH better graphics. My laptop is an OLD toshiba with a SHITAY gpu. It can still pump out HD. I have an old desktop that is still cream colored. OLD. It's onboard Intel chipset can pump out HD. Both in 4:3 format but still HD. I think the Wii has bee secretly downplayed. It wouldn't be that much to give us 720. I'm just tired of bland colors.

@GGX

It launches this month in japan, i am kinda sure that is final.

I never cared for graphics, but it sure as hell better be fluid.
I love treasure though, so regardless, i will probably eat this all up.

I agree with Holmes and The-Excel. The original Sin & Punishment's gameplay was so good it didn't matter that much about how the game looked.

Still, there's certainly nothing wrong with appreciating Treasure's effort to want to make the sequel not only play well but look good in the process. Two thumbs up.

Sin & Punishment 2 will be a day one purchase for me.

Opps, sorry about the spelling. I have some Newcastles in me. The Intel set will do widescreen, 1280x720. The HD video can be choppy, but its okay with some light gaming. Dropping it to like 860 makes it okay, still better than Wii and over ten years old.

The Dreamcast could do these graphics? Are you also insane or only an obvious troll?

I'm excited for this game. The first one looked and played like no other game on the N64, so I'm naturally looking forward to this.

Wow. What an improvement.

Also as has been said Dreamcast could never do these types of graphics. I can't even argue that. It's just a fact. Go pop in your fondest DC title and then take a look at that dragon...monster...thing. Bump mapping! Big difference.

Damm, I remember playing better-looking Atari games. Seriously, why don't they give up on duct-taping GameCubes and just re-release the Nintendo 64 with motion controls?

Read that again, if you please. Now think about how asshole-ish and immature it sounded. Now dust off your Dreamcast and play some games on it for a while. If the Dreamcast-quality accusations return, I give up.

C'mon people, it's not technical prowess at its finest, but it IS good looking. Specially given at the console it's in. Remember it's a Treasure game and there's always LOTS of shit going on at the same time.

Whoa, Springsteen, I was worried there for a moment.

Honestly, if it looks good and plays well, who really cares whether it could be any better? Take the game you have and not the game you can imagine, because there's a decent chance it can't exist.

We all know wii graphics suck. To call attention to it once again with this article is just flat out mean.

Even with bump mapping wii graphics still suck! Well...yeah. Clearly we aren't going to be playing S&P2 for the graphics. Cos that would be retarded.

I think I would rather watch (and eventually play) the game in motion than battle on the Field of Screenshots.

What people don't get when graphics and Wii pop up in the same conversation is that there have been games with good-looking graphics for it. You only need one to prove it can be done, and off the top of my head Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I honestly think that a lot of games that come out have crappy graphics because of a lack of trying on the developers part. "Oh no, it can't produce graphics that use as many resources as the 360 or ps3, so why even try!" If you think the Wii is completely incapable of producing good-looking graphics, then I guess all the games that came out for the last generation looked like shit to you.
