A better (though less official) price drop on Xbox 360 photo

For some reason, Amazon has a 20gb Xbox 360 on sale for $329.99 right now.

Why is it $20 less than the recently announced official price drop? We have no idea, but it might have something do with Amazon wanting to clear out the current stock of non-HDMI models to make way for the new ones, though you shouldn't quote us on that..

Something else is a bit suspect: the item is named "Xbox 360 Console Includes 20GB Hard Drive". "Includes?" Does that mean that it is a core system with a hard drive thrown in? Are they just packing together older stock of stand alone hard drives with Core systems?

In the end, does it really matter? An Xbox 360 with a a 20gb hard drive is available now for $329.99. If you've been wanting an Xbox 360 and don't really care about HDMI, then why wait?

FYI: Premiums in Germany are also called "Xbox360 console with 20GB harddrive". Amazon.co.uk also doesn't call it a Premium. I would wait in case these are not 65nm's :)

Am I correct in thinking that the only way to get full HD on a 360 is to have HDMI? Is there a DVI cable that does the trick?

No, you can do 1080p thru component if your TV accepts it. Also, 720p and 108i on component

If you're going with the Core + HDD route why not just go with the gogamer.com deal Cheapy D lists?

$50 HDD (20 gigs)
$250 Core

=

$300 Core with Harddrive.

@Vin

You still have to buy a wireless controller and the component cables.

The Amazon deal lists HD component cables and a wireless controller, so this would have to be a Premium system.

The core is a massive waste of money.

I have a 50' HDTV and I have my current (Non HDMI) XB hooked up to the secoundary (3rd input) HD in the back. IS that basicly the same as haveing an HDMI or is the HDMI better then the 108i setting somehow?

Well the design flaws would be one good reason to wait.

Neonie: most games are 720p anyway, so using component should suffice if you run it at that res I think? Unless you need more detail on the updated fur-graphics in Lost Planet of course..

I should be fine then, I dont even really like lost planet to much. Though I cant really say I've played enough of it to make that decision, but I played the Demo and it was really sloppy and the controls werent great to me.

Why is it $20 dollars less? It's not. It's $20 dollars shipping plus Tax. You're still buying it for the same price.

When I went through the checkout process, there was no tax and you can get super saver shipping for free.

Thanks for the tip, Dale! This was just the deal I've been waiting for before I splurged. It's been a long wait, but I'm glad to finally be on the Wii60 team.
I might have to make a special Dale North faceplate to commemorate the moment.
