You've read the Games Guide, you've read the Hardware and Accessories Guide. I know what you're thinking. "Steven, you goofy-haired jerk, tell me something I don't know." Fine, smart guy. Here are a bunch of arbitrary suggestions.

Destructoid Holiday Gift Guide 2013: Hardware/Accessories
by Steven Hansen

Like it or not, Christmas is rearing its frost bitten head yet again. I know you're still a day from sitting through fraught Thanksgiving dinners, but I'm here to remind you in advance and offer you a primer for planning your consumerist immolation.

Early in the week we brought you an exhaustive list of the only games you should buy. Seriously. If it wasn't on that list, there is absolutely zero point to owning it ever and your loved ones will hate you for getting them an off-brand, off-list game.

Just a seething, percolating hate that will end in violence next holiday when you're drunkenly pushed into an armoire by your aunt who sure as heck didn't want a copy of BioShock Infinite when all her friends were talking about The Last of Us. Well who looks stupid and out of fashion now? Her, or the loser whose muffled cries barely escape the armoire?

Anyway, here's some hardware and accessories you can buy.

This list is just games. Hardware, accessories, and miscellany are coming up throughout the day.

Merry Christmas, you filthy animal.

Help us shape our Holiday Gift Guide!

It's that time of the year again where we start finalizing all the hottest and coolest stuff we want to nab for the holidays. New consoles are upon us, there's a ton of great games to get, and there's plenty of other cool gad...

Destructoid's 2012 Hardware Holiday Gift Guide

[Special thanks to Jonathan Ross, Brett, and Dale for helping me put this all together. The list would have been much more dull without their creative suggestions.]

For me, gift guides have always been more about the fun of imagining yourself possessing things you don't particularly need and likely can't afford rather than using them to actually figure out what you want to buy for your loved ones. Isn't that what Amazon wishlists are for?

As we saw in our holiday gift guide for software, games are one thing -- especially given the high quality of digital-only titles and frequency of heavy discounts on the more expensive releases. But hardware? That's where I start to delve into daydreaming territory.

More than anything else, this gift guide is focused on suggesting "cool stuff" that you wouldn't mind receiving as a gift or treating yourself to. It really is the thought that counts, and since we don't personally know your friends and family (that well), the truly thoughtful, tearjerker gifts are solely on you. With all that said, let's dive right in.

Destructoid's 2012 Games Holiday Gift Guide photo
Destructoid's 2012 Games Holiday Gift Guide
by Allistair Pinsof

Let's pretend that we all have friends and family, for a moment. And, let's pretend we have the funds and consideration to buy them holiday gifts -- I'm losing page views by the second with this far-fetched imaginary realm of my creation, aren't I?

Buying gifts for people is hard because people can be very strange. Take my brother: He loves Mass Effect 2, hates Mass Effect 3, and is lukewarm on XCOM. I've tried kicking him but it doesn't make gift giving any easier. Rather than organize Destructoid's guide by price and console, I've done considerable research (as in, making stuff up) and broke down every human being in existence into six categories.

Place your person of interest into one of the categories below and pick-up one of our recommended games. Nobody likes being labeled so maybe keep the process between you and me?

The DTOID Show: Who will win 'The Fall Haul' photo
The DTOID Show: Who will win 'The Fall Haul'
by Max Scoville

Hey gang, in spite of the torrential downpour of news coming out of the Tokyo Game Show right now, the studio was closed today, so we had to shoot today's episode in advance.

With the sudden realization that the great Holiday season deluge of new games to buy is almost upon us, we decided to make a game show out of it. What games would we pick, if we only had a hundred bucks a month? And, you know. What if only one copy of each game was printed. We've got a poll going over on our Facebook page, so go vote for who had the best haul of games.

Top five computer monitors for under $200 photo
Top five computer monitors for under $200
by Alex Bout

As good of a gaming computer as you might have, whether you spent $400 or $2000, its visual output will more or less look like crap unless you have a good monitor to show off what it can do. Today, I'm going to rank the top five monitors for your money, based on a budget of around $200.

To make these rankings, I not only took price into factor but also contrast, brightness, screen size (yes, size does matter), resolution, screen type, and extra toys as well. I limited my ranking to a budget of $200 or less, so some of the more popular brands such as Samsung were overlooked. (While they have good monitors at a higher price, they do not have any monitors that can match up to the ones I found in this price range.) In addition to this, all 1920x1200 monitors were disregarded, as their general price range is above the allotted budget.
