JumpJet Rex revels in old-school charm, hits Early Access January 14 photo
JumpJet Rex revels in old-school charm, hits Early Access January 14
by Alessandro Fillari

There's just something about the 8-bit and 16-bit eras of gaming. Even after decades, it's still a remarkable and enduring period that's managed to stand the test of time. With a slick focus on charming visuals and deeply refined gameplay, the classics of the time are still played today. And, with a sizable amount of fans clamoring for the return of such titles, it's easy to see why the endearing nature of 2D games holds strong. Honestly, games just felt more pure back then, and it looks as though some devs are looking to emulate the example set by games from the past.

Originally created as a quick title for GameJam 2014, the developers at Tree Fortress found something special about this peculiar T-Rex wearing jet boots, and decided to flesh it out into a fully featured title. Taking inspiration from classic games like Mega Man and Sonic, the talent behind JumpJet Rex wanted to offer players a new 2D platformer that's not only goofy fun, but also tough as nails.

Evolve offers a refreshingly robust and devious co-op experience photo
Evolve offers a refreshingly robust and devious co-op experience
by Alessandro Fillari

There's been a lot of buzz surrounding Evolve, the new co-op shooter from Turtle Rock Studios. Helmed by the same developers of the original Left 4 Dead, fans have certainly been chomping at the bit for more information. After a successful closed alpha, the developers took a lot of notes on how players experienced the game to make a better title.

Set on the colonized planet Shear, players take on the roles of hunters seeking to eliminate powerful alien creatures that are attacking the human colonists. If that sounds a little boring, then players can inversely control the malevolent beasts to wipe out the human invaders to reclaim the planet. Though it's often seen as a mash-up between Monster Hunter and Left 4 Dead, which is a totally fair and accurate description, Evolve certainly has unique traits of its own.

At a special press event, we got the chance to get some hands on time the game, while learning more about some of its additions.

Ubisoft removes Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass from the marketplace photo
Ubisoft removes Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass from the marketplace
by Alessandro Fillari

Earlier this morning, several users on NeoGAF noticed that Steam, PlayStation Network, and other online stores had removed all pages for the Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass, with German games site GamersGlobal claiming that Ubisoft plans to redo its entire post-launch plans for the troubled game. But now, the company has announced it is in fact discontinuing sales of the Season Pass and hopes to remedy the situation.

In a post on the official Unity blog, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto CEO Yannis Mallat discussed the state of things and how the company plans to regain consumer trust. In addition to the ceased sales of the Season Pass, holders can expect to receive free content.

"To show our appreciation for your continued support, we're making the upcoming Assassin's Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone," he said. "For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free." Those are: The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Just Dance 2015.

Want to see new footage of Batman: Arkham Knight? photo
Want to see new footage of Batman: Arkham Knight?
by Alessandro Fillari

After news of the delay back in September, the folks at WB Games and Rocksteady have kept all things Batman: Arkham Knight close to the vest. Thankfully, they figured we could use another appetizer after their showing at E3, and this new gameplay footage makes the wait even harder to bear.

In the video, we get to see the early portions of the game where Batman must rescue hostages from an Ace Chemicals factory. With his Batmobile in tow, he easily breaks in and gets to work on dispensing justice, but he soon learns that the Arkham Knight (voiced by Troy Baker, of course) is calling the shots and will prove to be a worthy adversary.

It's best to go into this without too much description. The gameplay for the Batmobile looks very impressive and I'm glad we finally got a Batman game that does the vehicle justice.
