Link's outfit looks pretty badass in Monster Hunter 4

We've already known that Monster Hunter 4 has a very neat looking set of Link armor and weapon sets, but we haven't seen a whole lot of footage on them -- until this week that is, when Capcom unleashed a new trailer int...

Monster Hunter 4 NA weapon contest winner is an insect glaive

I don't think anyone expected the North American weapon contest winner to top the UK's Monster Hunter 4 design (a freaking pig on a club, c'mon!), but it's a pretty cool looking item nonetheless. Yep, the North American...

Loads of Monster Hunter 4G limited edition items and accessories

As we wait until 2015, Japan is getting Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in October and, with it, a chance to clutter players' living spaces with more kitschy junk.  The limited edition (above) comes with four figurines an...

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will see an October release in Japan
by Chris Carter

In this morning's Japanese Nintendo Direct, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will hit Japanese 3DS units everywhere on October 11th. Yep, this is the same game we will eventually get overseas come 2015.

As is the case with all Monster Hunter expansions, new weapons, monsters, and areas are in tow. You can get a glimpse of the update in the new video above from Capcom. Considering how many re-releases we've had lately from the series, I'm excited to see a real, new entry.

Monster Hunter 4 will be distributed by Nintendo in Europe

We all know that a successful Monster Hunter can make a portable. The PSP exploded after each subsequent Monster Hunter launch, and the Vita is currently suffering in part for a lack of the franchise. Nintendo ...

The Monster Hunter 4 UK weapon contest winner is a pig club that oinks

There's going to be a long wait before most of us get to play Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS, but in the meantime, we can enjoy the festivities from Capcom's recent weapon design contest. Sending out a casting call to all ...

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on iOS is astoundingly faithful, if you have a controller

Here we are in 2014 with an iOS port of a PSP game, in the form of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. The kicker? It's very, very good. As a port of 2008's Freedom Unite, everything is faithfully recreated on an iOS devi...

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate: E3 first hunt photo
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate: E3 first hunt
by Dale North

Waiting for one of Capcom’s own to sit in and play with me for my first go at upcoming 3DS title Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, I got a bit hasty and started picking my own quest. Little did I know I was headed for trouble by taking on a quest demo to take on the hardest enemy they had there, the Gore Magala.

When we finally did team up and get started on the quest I blindly picked we died pretty quickly. I’m fully responsible as I’ve only played Monster Hunter games casually in the past.

Capcom hopes Monster Hunter 4 sells 3.9 million more copies

We already knew that Capcom did pretty decent for itself last year. This was thanks in no small part to Monster Hunter 4, which moved 4.1 million copies in Japan and South Korea. Capcom's not calling it a day, as it has more ...

Capcom had a good year, Monster Hunter 4 led the way

If you hear some hootin' and hollerin', and maybe spot a party hat or two, that's just Capcom celebrating its decent fiscal year. Not everybody actually makes money anymore, so don't rain on its parade. Capcom's good year was...

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is now out on iOS in Japan

This week Capcom released the iOS version of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and it doesn't look half bad -- if you have an MFi controller of course (the on-screen touch prompts look pretty nasty). Why does it look decent, you...

Review: Toukiden: The Age of Demons photo
Review: Toukiden: The Age of Demons
by Kyle MacGregor

Originality is a pretty hard thing to come by, and ideas don't just materialize out of thin air. They're a patchwork of experiences lifted from our surroundings, filtered, and diffused back out into the world.

Many of us hide the stitching of our subliminal thievery, as we pull together material and create pastiches that are uniquely our own. Some openly celebrate their influences. And others are brazen enough to poach thoughts wholesale, copying intricate formulas to churn out imitation products.

Toukiden: The Age of Demons falls in that last category. Just about the furthest thing in the world from an original game, it pilfers liberally from the Monster Hunter series, and does little to obscure that fact. And that's okay. Despite the game's derivative nature, it manages to provide a reasonably decent, if somewhat drab, facsimile of its paragon.
