I could've been a pirate ship but I was a disco ball instead in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

As I sat down for my appointment with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, I had to make my toughest decision at PAX Prime. Running through Claptrap's capstone abilities, I was faced with the following dilemma: Do I want to become a ...

Cloudbase Prime alpha build available now, free to download photo
Cloudbase Prime alpha build available now, free to download
by Rob Morrow

Originally created for the 7DFPS Challenge in 2012, Cloudbase Prime is an attractive-looking low-poly FPS platformer by Tyrus Peace and is currently available for free in its 0.2 alpha state. You can download it here.

Set on a floating mining platform above a gas giant, you'll be tasked with destroying robotic enemies using your energy cannon and the Architect: a gizmo that can be used to manipulate the hex-based tiles that the mining platform is constructed from.

The game reminds me a bit of Drunken Robot Pornography, and that's definitely not a bad thing in my book: It's got giant robots, high-flying platforming and first-person shooter elements. Oh yeah, did I mention that it's free?

For an idea of how the game plays, take a look at the developer's Walker Mech combat footage in the video above.

Review in Progress: Firefall photo
Review in Progress: Firefall
by Chris Carter

Firefall is a game that has seemed to get a lot of press over the past few years, often for the wrong reasons. Whether it's word of troubled staff, protests, or delays, most Firefall news isn't good news.

But alas, as we all know, the true test of a game's strength is how it plays on its own merits, when it's fully released. After testing it out for a few weeks I can safely say that Firefall hasn't blown me away, but it has laid a decent foundation to build upon in the future.
