Man hate-buys Rosalina & Luma amiibo in bulk so fans can't have them

Collector's Corner: How do you handle trinkets and toys? photo
Collector's Corner: How do you handle trinkets and toys?
by Chris Carter

It's been a while since the last episode of Collector's Corner, but with the amiibo-craze happening I figured it's a good time to check in with the gang.

For the most part, when we talk about videogame collectors, we're talking actual cold hard videogames. Whether it's a retro or modern flavored collection, discs or cartridges, there's plenty of game hunting to be found, despite the fact that a lot of stores have already phased out older platforms.

But what about trinkets? You know, toys, figures, books, and of course, amiibo. Do you have the fever for merchandise too? Or do you just stick to games?

Donkey Kong 64 made me the gamer that I am today photo
Donkey Kong 64 made me the gamer that I am today
by Brett Makedonski

Before each episode of Hardline, Destructoid's videogame news podcast, the cast always takes a few minutes to chat while our producer sets the show up. This week, Jordan mentioned that he'd been thinking about Donkey Kong 64 a lot lately, a game that he liked more than most others. The statement struck me as odd; Donkey Kong 64 has always been an absolute gem in my eyes.

"What do you mean? Do people not remember that game fondly?" I asked. Jordan replied "Not necessarily. A lot of people on the Internet think there was too much collecting." It had never clicked before, but Donkey Kong 64 very well may have been where I learned to love collectibles, and it may also be the game that molded me as a gamer.

The world's largest video game collection sells for $750k and I am extremely jealous

One of the most impressive game collections I've seen in some time was up for sale recently, and it sold for a whopping $750,250. That's over 11,000 games on systems from the Amiga to the WonderSwan. I'd list all the systems...

Contest: Win a limited edition Infamous: Second Son statue!
by Mr Andy Dixon

[Update: Contest over! Winner is skywes27!]

Our friends at Sony have given us two amazing Infamous: Second Son statues to hand out to the Destructoid community! These 12" Polystone behemoths feature Second Son's protagonist, Delsin Rowe, standing atop a diorama of destruction holding a real metal chain. Only 150 of these were made and their estimated retail value is $200, so these are true collector's items!

We'll be giving away one statue here on the site and another during our exclusive Infamous: Second Son playthrough with Chris Zimmerman of Sucker Punch tomorrow at 2pm Pacific over on Dtoid TV. To get your name in the hat for the first, tell us in the comments below what you're looking forward to doing most once you get your hands on Second Son! Being from the Pacific Northwest, I can't wait to get my feet wet on the rainy streets of Seattle... and then set them on fire with a blast of neon! What about you?

You have until this Sunday, March 9 at 11:59pm Pacific to enter, and the contest is open to anyone in the U.S. Good luck! And don't forget, our Huge members get automatic entry into all contests (as well as a bunch of other awesome perks). It's pretty great!
