Game Boy sex! Parallel Processing by Danimal Cannon & Zef

I had a chance to meet the bald and beautiful Danimal Cannon (Roots, Armcannon, Metroid Metal) at MAGFest this year, and I've gotta say, he's one chill dude -- lounging at the merch table in a night robe, what a rebel! Still,...

Exclusive: Time and Space, Mega Ran's new fan-request EP photo
Exclusive: Time and Space, Mega Ran's new fan-request EP
by Tony Ponce

My boy Random a.k.a. Mega Ran was performing at MAGFest, so of course I had to swing by his set and show some love. Those who had never seen a Mega Ran performance were in for a treat. Even Niero and Dale North were floored by "Sock Hop" off Ran's River City Random album!

Long-time Ran fans were in for a surprise too -- a brand-new joint, "Outta Sight," that samples the famous pause beat from BattleToads. It's the lead track in a new EP entitled Time and Space, the first in a monthly EP series in which Ran will make songs based off games suggested by fans. For Time and Space, expect to hear tracks that source Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, Gitaroo Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Earthworm Jim, and Mega Man X.

Where can you download this release? Right here on Destructoid! Hit up MediaFire or our SoundCloud page to snag the free seven-track album. However, for $5 on Bandcamp, you can score the Deluxe Edition of Time and Space that includes two extra tracks -- from Battlefield 3 and Final Fantasy IX -- plus instrumentals. And if you'd like to make a game request for an upcoming EP, contact megaranfans@gmail.com. for more info.

Check out the preview streams below, then get to downloadin'!

Mega Man 3 OST gets a VRC6 chiptune overhaul

I've said it before, but Konami's VRC6 Memory Management Controller chip was quite magical. Applied to a Famicom cartridge, it added three extra sound channels, allowing for richer audio. Just compare "Beginning" from the We...

PSA: Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run is ready fo' yo ass
by Tony Ponce

Guys. Guys. It's out.

Shinesparkers' arrange album Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run, which we reminded you about a mere two days ago, went live earlier today. If you haven't snagged the free three-disc release already, head on over to the download page now and get to steppin'. If that page is not working for one reason or another, use this mirror or this torrent.

As mentioned previously, 101% Run arrives just in time to celebrate Metroid Prime's tenth anniversary. And if you happen to be one of the lucky punks picking up a Wii U at midnight or sometime on Sunday, it'll make perfect background music while you unpack and hook sh*t up!

Double whammy!

The return of The Adventures of Duane & BrandO!

The first "game music with lyrics" group I remember falling in love with was The Adventures of Duane & BrandO, the white boy nerdcore tag team of Duane Zuwala and Brandon Lackey. Their curse-laden rhymes were loads of fu...

Make Music, Throw Music: Brand new Yoshi's Island jams photo
Make Music, Throw Music: Brand new Yoshi's Island jams
by Tony Ponce

Do you love Yoshi's Island? Shut up. Trick question. Of course you do. If you don't, I have nothing more to say to you. Get out!

Make Music, Throw Music takes the soundfont from the SNES classic and uses it to craft completely original tunes, in the same vein as the SNESology project and Halfont. In charge of the album is sleepytimejesse with assistance from Halfont's William Kage, and the full release is padded with contributions by various artists from SNESology and beyond.

The 22-track collection available for free on Ubiktune, where you can also download the Yoshi's Island soundfont to try your hand at crafting new-gen SNES ditties.

Nice and easy with the Sonic medley by Super Guitar Bros.

Sometimes, you gotta take it nice and slow. You don't have to speed through life all the time. No stress, my friends. No stress. Soothe your weary joints by drawing a warm bath, lighting some incense, then playing this Sonic...

The tipping point! Chiptunes = WIN gets an expansion pack photo
The tipping point! Chiptunes = WIN gets an expansion pack
by Tony Ponce

[Header image from "Nyan Caxx"]

A few months ago, Brandon Hood of the "Chiptunes = WIN" movement organized an orgasmic three-hour, 51-track chiptune album that was as incredible as it was grossly excessive.

Naturally, he felt compelled to release a follow-up!

Starting right now on Arecibo Radio's "8 Bit Power Hour," Brandon will be sharing a selection of the 22 brand new tracks, produced by 24 different chiptune artists. Afterwards, the "Expansion Pack" will show up on the Chiptunes = WIN Bandcamp page for free download.

Soooooo, like, holy sh*t.

Chiptunes = WIN \m|♥|m/ "Expansion Pack" FTW!!!!!! 8D [Facebook]

Get equipped with the fan-made 'Mega Man 11' OST photo
Get equipped with the fan-made 'Mega Man 11' OST
by Tony Ponce

No, you didn't miss any surprise announcement of a new Classic Mega Man sequel. Yes, Capcom is just as thick-headed as ever. But a fan can dream, can't he?

Xavier "mv" Dang is a professional game composer who, like all sensible folks, has a soft spot for the little robot boy in blue. With the Mega Man series' 25th anniversary fast approaching, Xavier decided to throw a celebration the best way he knew how -- using FamiTracker, he created an NES-style soundtrack for an fake "Mega Man 11"! He's holding a listening party on his TwitchTV channel, and once that's over, he'll make the album available on his Bandcamp page for free download.

The main OST is 24 tracks (in mp3, FLAC, and even NSF formats) plus five bonus arrangements. For inspiration, he asked the ShowPrime community to suggest the eight Robot Masters. The ultimate picks -- which were then brought to life by various contributing artists -- are appropriately bizarre, such as Worm Man, Card Man, and Egg Man (no, not THAT Eggman). But my favorite is definitely Whip Woman, who is decked out like a dominatrix and reminds me of Linda from Double Dragon.

If you enjoy good chiptunes, do tune in. If you like Mega Man jams, do tune in. If you are sitting in your house on a Sunday afternoon with no plans (like me), what else are you gonna do?

River City Random has hot beats, won't make you 'Barf!'
