The Order: 1886: Gritty, cinematic eye candy photo
The Order: 1886: Gritty, cinematic eye candy
by Dale North

Sony and Ready at Dawn have been tight-lipped about upcoming PS4 game The Order: 1886 up until now, and even with what they showed us last week, it seems that they're still just barely scratching the surface. But it's not like they didn't want to show us more, or at least that was what I sensed after hearing from Ready at Dawn. It's just that what we saw was about all they had to show.

This first showing of gameplay is what the industry likes to call a "vertical slice." This slice of The Order: 1886 wasn't quite enough to fill me up, but it did serve as a pretty tasty sampler.

The anatomy of Evolve - interview photo
The anatomy of Evolve - interview
by Bill Zoeker

Our own gentle giant, Max Scoville, had a chat recently with Denby Grace of 2K Games about their upcoming title, Evolve. In case you missed it, Evolve is being developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the minds behind the Left 4 Dead series. Max got the scoop on some of the finer points of gameplay in this "4v1" clash of predator and prey.

After sifting through the game footage for this video, I'm thoroughly intrigued by the unusual concepts presented in Evolve. Knowing this game comes from the people who crafted the remarkable AI in L4D, I'm rather excited at the idea of a new multiplayer game I can just play by myself when my friends aren't around. *cough*Payday 2*cough*

Your first look at the SOCOM spiritual successor, H-Hour

H-Hour: World's Elite is the spiritual successor to the SOCOM franchise. The team met their funding goal last year and now we're seeing the first footage of H-Hour. The gameplay video here is all in pre-alpha, and it's looking pretty promising. .

Gears of War and Shoot Many Robots on Games with Gold photo
Gears of War and Shoot Many Robots on Games with Gold
by Darren Nakamura

Microsoft's "Games with Gold" initiative has been picking up steam lately, with two games being offered free of charge to Xbox Live Gold members every month since its inception. I usually don't get to benefit from it due to already owning the titles in question, but late next month I'll be able to snag Shoot Many Robots for free. Rad.

Gold members who don't already own the original Gears of War will be able to experience the game that popularized cover-based third-person shooters during this past generation, in all of its chainsaw-bayoneted glory. For the month of December, Gears of War will be free until the 15th while Shoot Many Robots will be featured from the 16th onward.

Talking about F2P & Phantom Army with Zombie Studios head
by Steven Hansen

Last night, we brought you the first look at Phantom Army, the upcoming (2014) free-to-play third-person shooter from Zombie Studios (Blacklight: Retribution, Daylight) and SmileGate, makers of the massively popular CrossFire.

I talked with Zombie studio head Jared Gerritzen about the game, how the North American opinion has refracted back into worldwide free-to-play design, growing global markets that outnumber the United States, and more.

12 minutes of pure horror with The Evil Within photo
12 minutes of pure horror with The Evil Within
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

The Evil Within is going to be hopefully a return to the classic survival horror games we grew up with. That was my thoughts when I first saw the opening act to the game prior to E3 this year.  Now you can see what Isaw as Bethesda has released the prologue in video form. It's a quick version of what I saw, as this is trying to capture all the high points.

What you're not seeing or getting a taste for is the pure tension the game offers. That's something you're going to have to experience first hand when it's released
