All hail TASbot: Twitch chat on a Super Nintendo, complete with emotes

"If you've ever wondered what would happen if you pressed your buttons perfectly -- if you pressed them a little bit earlier, a little bit later, or if you had perfect timing, perfect reactions, and you knew exactly what ...

Collector's Corner: How do you handle trinkets and toys? photo
Collector's Corner: How do you handle trinkets and toys?
by Chris Carter

It's been a while since the last episode of Collector's Corner, but with the amiibo-craze happening I figured it's a good time to check in with the gang.

For the most part, when we talk about videogame collectors, we're talking actual cold hard videogames. Whether it's a retro or modern flavored collection, discs or cartridges, there's plenty of game hunting to be found, despite the fact that a lot of stores have already phased out older platforms.

But what about trinkets? You know, toys, figures, books, and of course, amiibo. Do you have the fever for merchandise too? Or do you just stick to games?

It took almost four years to build this amazing Pillar of Autumn from Halo with Legos

I was recently given a tiny Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Lego set. 47 pieces. I put it together in no time. Michelangelo with a little cart thing. It was simple, but I loved it. You know; that feeling you get when y...

Eight childhood game obsessions, illustrated

For Matter's New York Review of Video Games, a "weeklong celebration of our most experimental, most alive, least respected art form," the publication asked eight artists to illustrate a single game that dominated their youth,...

I think we've found the ultimate OutRun machine

I hadn't heard of Force Dynamics' crazy-looking 401cr motion platform before today but I'm already convinced: it is the coolest way to play Sega's arcade classic OutRun.* "This is the original arcade OutRun from 1986, ported...

Ducklings and Pikmin need to watch out for storm drains

Don't tell Jonathan, but I still need to watch Pikmin Short Movies. I'm a bad Pikmin fan. But looking at these pieces of art created using Art Academy: SketchPad makes me feel better. They were made for a Miiverse challenge p...

OC ReMix celebrates turning 15 with, yep, you guessed it photo
OC ReMix celebrates turning 15 with, yep, you guessed it
by Jordan Devore

OverClocked ReMix has given us a ton of amazing remixes over the years. Longer than I realize, sometimes -- the game music community celebrated its 15th anniversary this week. Crazy.

For the big one-five, the site has released 15 new remixes from 15 different game systems. You can listen to those here, free of charge. Lot of fun titles on the list, including Chrono Trigger, Demon's Souls, and, haha, Super Mario Sunshine. Here's to 15 more years.

Got a favorite OC ReMix album? Mine is Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business.

This map shows where to find Pokémon in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

On my journey to obtain every Pokémon in X/Y (and eventually give many of them away; no regrets!), this map of catchable Pokémon created by reddit user Bobdor was instrumental. It got my Pokédex off to a ...

I wish I had the artistic talent to make a sweet Charizard Game Boy

You can't comprehend how bad I am at drawing and painting. Impossibly bad. Like, I'm not positive I'd pass a kindergarten class if that's a thing five year-olds get judged on. Then there are people like this who can flawless...

Finally, some Majora's Mask art that doesn't terrify me

Olly Moss is my favorite artist working on game-related prints, though he also makes great posters and even box art. I never seem to be around when his stuff is up for sale, and that, well, that doesn't change today with the...

Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow!

Don't cry, Rain. Our own battle has just begun.  I just want to watch stupid G Gundam all weekend with its nationally stereotyped gundam. It's like a 4th grader designed them all after reading through a world atlas.   That or just play Gundam Battle Assault 2.

Armchair psychology: Why we keep playing bad games photo
Armchair psychology: Why we keep playing bad games

Destiny is the worst game I can't stop playing

I keep hearing this, or variations of it again and again from my friends, all of whom seem unable to escape the jaws of a game they all claim to hate.

And you know what? I get it. Because it's 1:00 am, and I'm up playing MechWarrior Online again. Or if we go back a few years, Ragnarok Online. Or Gun Griffon Blaze, or Rainbow Six, or whatever other shitty game I either never liked to begin with, or learned to despise, but dumped a needless amount of hours into for reasons that I couldn't articulate then and barely understand now.

I think we've all probably done a stint at the crappy-game-rodeo in our lives. Played something our heart wasn't into but put up with long after it was time to call it quits. But why? Well, I won't pretend to know all the answers, but I've been down this road a few times, and I think I can point out a few recurring patterns. More importantly, I think I might have a few ways to break the cycle.

This Super Smash kitten is simply adorable

Jonathan introduced this video of a kitten occasionally pawing at Super Smash Bros. by saying, "It's the least newsworthy news ever newsed, but it will make people happy to watch." Indeed, I had just come off a last-round de...

Fall asleep to a sea life documentary filmed in Grand Theft Auto V

I didn't spend a lot of time underwater in Grand Theft Auto V. There are a lot of other things to do, like chasing a guy down for 15 minutes on foot because he's wearing a scarf in 80 degree weather, and then punching him a ...

So long, sub-$100 PS4s: Walmart adjusts price-matching policy

Thanks to Walmart's new online price matching, some customers were recently able to set up phony third-party listings on Amazon.com and convince the retailer to honor totally ridiculous discounts. For instance, how does a Pla...

I like Far Cry 4's map editor because it leads to goat butt stabbing videos

Imagine a scenario where goats take over and rule supreme. Not good-natured, frolic in the meadow, eat your leafy spruge goats. No, purely evil, human-devouring, straight-up refuse to eat your leafy spurge goats. Pretty...
