January NPD: 360 leads, Black Ops still on top

After another December as the U.S.'s top selling home console, it looks like the Wii is on the decline again. Last month, the console was outsold by the Xbox 360 by about 60,000 units. That's a +32% gain for the 360 compared ...

Blogger says the Wii will be "dead by 2009", rabid fans plot his death

Blogger Kezins is either incredibly brave or made of steel plating, but even if he's a bit of both, he's drawn plenty of ire with a recent post on Kezins.com about how he feels the Wii will fall into total obscurity by 2009 u...

Spike TV books Foo Fighters for the 2007 VGAs

The current state of videogames on cable TV is poor at best. Rarely does the medium get coverage outside of mainstream news reporting on the latest killing spree and then getting an "expert" to play the blame game. ...

Controlling your Scarface with your Wii

Old Forbes dude calls Microsoft's gaming attempts a 'disastrous endeavour'

For most of us that have an Xbox 360 (that works), we love it. In fact, I'd say for most gamers nowadays in the North America regions, the 360 has more or less become the next-gen console of choice -- maybe mostly due to ...

Tons of new Lair gameplay footage; let me hear you say "meh!"
by Chad Concelmo

I love dragons, but have always thought they have gotten a bad rap. With movies like Dragonheart and Eragon, dragons have been portrayed as annoying, sentimental creatures that, surprisingly, have a lot of things to say. I like my dragons mean, mute, and fiery, dammit! That’s why I was so excited about the upcoming PlayStation 3 game, Lair. I thought to myself, “it’s about time these glorious winged beasts got a chance to shine!" Nothin' but love, Spyro.

You can understand my disappointment then when I watched this gameplay footage. It doesn't look terrible; the game definitely has promise. I guess I was just expecting a lot more from something that lets you control one of the most awesome creatures ever!

The game is still being finished, so things could turn out just fine in the end (and, unlike some of my fellow Destructoid peeps, I have yet to actually play it). I think I am also being overly critical because I kind of have an unhealthy obsession with Reign of Fire. But early impressions are very important, and so far I am still feeling underwhelmed.

Check out some more (admittedly cooler) gameplay after the jump.
