Valve database lists Left 4 Dead 3, Half-Life 3 teams

Yesterday's discovery of Valve's trademark of Half-Life 3 in Europe didn't do much for me. This latest story, however, is an entirely different matter. The company's JIRA database for project management was publicly accessibl...

Looks like Left 4 Dead 3 is in the works photo
Looks like Left 4 Dead 3 is in the works
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Fans from the Reddit DOTA 2 community went on a tour of Valve recently and some secrets may have been spilled among the many photos that were taken. A picture of an employee's computer screen was captured, and upon closer inspection you can see that Left 4 Dead 3 was mentioned. That, and it's going to be running on the Source 2 engine.

Source 2 is no surprise as Gabe Newell has talked about this before, but this is the first time that Left 4 Dead 3 has ever been brought up. I wonder if fans will get pissed off again that a sequel is happening again.

Anyway, we would reach out to Valve's Doug Lombardi for an official statement on the matter but we'd have better luck yelling at the moon for a reply.

It's robot hell in this brilliant Team Fortress 2 short

Back in the glory days of Futurama came the brilliant "Hell Is Other Robots" episode that saw bender going to Robot Hell after committing some sins. The Robot Devil performs a little musical piece detailing Bender's torture in hell, and YouTuber MisterMulluc beautifully recreates the performance in Team Fortress 2 using the Source Filmmaker. This is just wonderful.

Impressions: Black Mesa is awesome photo
Impressions: Black Mesa is awesome
by Joshua Derocher

Black Mesa is now available, I am playing it, and I can tell you that it's awesome. It is an amazing recreation of the original Half-Life with updated graphics and sounds. We'll have a review up soon. In the meantime, here's 30 minutes of gameplay and my early impressions.

I went back and played some of Half-Life yesterday so I would have the original fresh in my mind when I started playing Black Mesa. The old game definitely looks dated, and this new visual update greatly enhances the experience. The textures are all very crisp and HD, the lighting is dynamic and modern, and physics have been fully added using the Havok engine.

Review: Revelations 2012 photo
Review: Revelations 2012
by Jim Sterling

Revelations 2012 first came to my attention when a random Twitter pal recommended it, presumably under the impression that I would find something to love in the same way I regularly watch Alien Resurrection and enjoy every shameful second. The trouble is, Alien Resurrection is so bad it's good, and even offers a number of genuinely entertaining moments.

Revelations 2012, on the other hand, just makes me angry. Angry to think that this is the kind of trash that gets approved for Steam while other, more deserving games are denied. Angry to think that a shoddily produced mod can charge $9.99 for a download.

Mostly, however, I am angry at myself. Because I am stupid enough to volunteer to review it.

Review: Nuclear Dawn photo
Review: Nuclear Dawn
by Allistair Pinsof

I’d say I’m not biased one way or another, but I’d be lying: I had to delete Team Fortress 2 from my hard drive in order to make room for Nuclear Dawn. It’s a fitting trade-off, since they are both team-based first-person shooters that put an emphasis on strategy. Though, that would be selling Nuclear Dawn short -- not that developer InterWave Studios haven’t already done that by attaching such a generic name to its retail debut.

Team Fortress 2 often feels like a Tower Defense Game: You set up turrets, get in position, and keep the opposing team from reaching your base. Nuclear Dawn, on the hand, is based on the foundations of a Real-Time Strategy game. A single commander decides the fate of an entire team by strategically placing turrets and other structures on a large, open map. It’s an ambitious concept. Although a few others before Nuclear Dawn have attempted an RTS-FPS hybrid, InterWave have revitalized the format of team-based gaming without sacrificing the smooth controls and gun-play players demand in a post-Modern Warfare world.

Indie-developer FPS/RPG E.Y.E. is something to watch
