Get milky with OC ReMix's Kirby Super Star album photo
Get milky with OC ReMix's Kirby Super Star album
by Tony Ponce

How can I help you, King DeDeDe?
I NEED A MONSTAH TO CLOBBER DAT DERE KIR-BEH!

Game music arrangement repository OverClocked ReMix has released Milky Way Wishes: A Kirby Super Star Tribute, a project that has spent a dizzying eight years in production. I can only guess at what kinds of behind-the-scenes shenanigans caused such a massive delay, but love for the Super Nintendo classic carried the team through.

Unlike the disgustingly monstrous multi-disc collections like Mega Man X: Maverick Rising or the recent Donkey Kong Country 3: Double the Trouble!, Milky Way Wishes is a respectable 23 tracks in length, spanning all manner of genres from chiptune to folk music. You can download it for free directly from the album's page, or you can mind OCR's precious bandwidth and torrent the pink puffball. The power is yours!

OC ReMix arranges the games of the Apex 2013 tourneys
by Tony Ponce

Running all weekend at Rutgers in New Brunswick, New Jersey, is the Apex 2013 fighting tournament. To promote the event as well as game arrangements in general, ten artists from OverClocked ReMix took a shot at arranging the music from the titles on the schedule. Well, technically nine artists -- DarkeSword covers two games, while John Ryan contributes the Apex 2013 main theme as the lead track.

Apex 2013: Straight to the Top has tracks from Super Smash Bros., Tekken Tag Tournament 2Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3Persona 4 Arena, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, The King of Fighters XIII, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, SoulCalibur V, and Pokémon Black & White 2. Hey, Pokémon isn't a fighting game! I doubt anyone is throwing up much of a fit over that, however.

As with any other OC ReMix release, the album is free to download. And if you want to follow the tournament itself, you can check out any of the following TwitchTV streams: 8WAYRUN, bifuteki, and CLASHTournaments. Each are running different games, so take your pick!

Double the Trouble! OC ReMix's massive DKC3 album photo
Double the Trouble! OC ReMix's massive DKC3 album
by Tony Ponce

I remember when OverClocked ReMix started producing full arrange albums nearly a decade ago. The second official release was 2004's Kong in Concert, a tribute to the SNES classic Donkey Kong Country. It clearly shows it's age, and all the contributing artists have since honed their skills immensely. Still, it remains on my music rotation to this day.

Fast forward six years, Serious Monkey Business drops. The level of overall improvement was readily apparent. I seriously believe it's one of OCR's strongest projects.

Now the trilogy is complete. Donkey Kong Country 3: Double the Trouble! is manages to dethrone Maverick Rising as the biggest OCR album to date, clocking in at 77 tracks from 69 artists across five discs at five-and-a-half hours in length. It covers not only the Super Nintendo tunes but also the radically different Game Boy Advance soundtrack. Even series composers David Wise and Robin Beanland offer up an arrangement of their own!

The time is "ripe." Get it? Don't look at me like that. Just... just go download the damn thing, foo'.

Indie game Impulse gets OST release via OC ReMix photo
Indie game Impulse gets OST release via OC ReMix
by Tony Ponce

Earlier this year, indie developer Deck16 released a very simple yet challenging physics-based PC game called Impulse. Combining the neon explosion of Geometry Wars, the careful precision of Lunar Lander, and the diabolical death traps of N, Impulse tasks you to complete levels under variable conditions. In one stage, you are at the whim of gravity; in another, your fuel supply is limited; and in yet another, missiles home in on your location. All in all, a decent weekend time-waster -- download it for free from Deck16's website.

Know what else is decent? The kickin' electronica soundtrack, which consists of tunes contributed by several different musicians. One of the artists, Meteo Xavier, compiled his contributions into an album published through OverClocked ReMix. The free release has a spacey mid-90s sound, and its lead track has the best title in the history of forever: "President Obama Is a Juggalo."

You can cop the album from either OCR or Bandcamp. If you want to hear more Impulse music, check out the separate release from the game's other major song contributor, Michael Chadwick.
