Metal Gear Solid V's E3 showing minus the hour of fluff

Konami posted its behind closed doors E3 demo that was the basis for my E3 preview and broken cynicism. But it did so as part of a two hour long thing with interviews and cuts away from the action. This is the straight, uninterrupted gameplay. And it's worth watching again, isn't it?

After months of seeing cryptic Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain videos come and go from YouTube after Konami removes them, we now have a gigantic official look at the game compliments of Konami's official YouTube. The video is actually the full E3 demo that Steven got a chance to see last week.

The entire presentation is roughly two hours long, and if you just want pure gameplay, skip over to the 50 minute mark. Once the demo starts the overview will be in English -- I don't want to spoil much, so have at it!

Our personal game of the show picks for E3 2014
by Steven Hansen

You saw our E3 2014 Game of the Show. It was Metal Gear Solid V. Saved you a click.

Now, it's a good one. In fact, I wrote about why it was our Game of the Show in that very post you just didn't click. But E3 was full of games like I'm full of curry. And Destructoid is an island of misfit toys sort of collection of miscreants, not a hive mind. So let's see what tickled everyone else's earlobes this year.

And, hey, now you can tell like 20 different people why they're wrong about games instead of just one!

These were the best trailers of E3 2014 photo
These were the best trailers of E3 2014
by Brett Makedonski

That's another E3 in the books. After months of speculation as to what gaming's most important convention might hold, four quick days clear everything up. In a way, it almost feels criminally short given everything that's on display at the show.

While it's impossible to personally see everything at E3, publishers always put their best foot forward by releasing new trailers for almost the entirety of their portfolio. It's a handy practice, as it's a nice marketing tactic to give the world a controlled glimpse of their games.

It's important to remember that trailers need to be taken with a grain of salt. They might accurately portray the title. Rather, they may eventually completely misrepresent the game entirely. Regardless of what the future holds for each, these were the trailers that best captured our attention last week.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain sheep heist screens

Remember all the cool things I was telling you about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain? Here they are, but as pictures instead of words. The highlight is the sheep. Between this and replayed Catherine last week, I'm having...

Okay, now I'm super excited for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain photo
Okay, now I'm super excited for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 trailer was good, but I'm used to good trailers for Metal Gear. It didn't light a fire in my belly. Ground Zeroes didn't exactly do so either. The behind-closed-doors Phantom Pain gameplay demonstration? Yes, yes, yes.

Red robot-armed Snake (Big Boss) ventures into an Afghan desert on horseback with Ocelot. The camera took a low angle long enough behind the two riders to appreciate some nice horse butt strut. This is the start of operation aw crap Miller forgot his sunglasses when he was kidnapped, go bring them back to him and rescue him while you're there I guess.

The introductory cutscene transitions seamlessly to gameplay. Snake's horse poops a bunch and the demo begins.

Here's the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 trailer for real this time
by Brett Makedonski

We already brought this to you once this morning, but someone wasn't a big fan of it being up already. So, they got it removed from YouTube. But, now the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer is up again, and it'll stay up this time. Promise.

If you've already gotten a chance to watch it, there's nothing wrong with double dippin'. It's a damn fine trailer.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 2014 trailer is grim photo
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain E3 2014 trailer is grim
by Alessandro Fillari

It seems Konami couldn't wait till the morning. The E3 trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has appeared online, and it's one hell of a tease for whats to come.

In the last few months, series creator Hideo Kojima shared some details about what to expect from this trailer -- claiming that it would be light on action and more about the struggles and trials the characters will go through in the game. And he was definitely right about that. This piece here is pretty intense and gives us a look at just how far KojiPro will push the upcoming Metal Gear game.

For more on MGSV and other titles at E3 2014, be sure to check back with Destructoid during the week.
