Props to Kojima
Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has shipped over six million copies, the company who formerly employed Kojima announced. This comes by way of their fiscal quarter report, which specifically boast...
That was fast
Last we heard, Metal Gear Online's PC beta was pulled due to an exploit last week, but in the middle of researching when a fix would happen, I found out the thing already launched! According to a post on Steam from the develo...
Konami's working on a quick fix
Those Diamond Dogs can be a bunch of doggone dirty scoundrels. Konami learned that the hard way with its recently-launched PC beta for Metal Gear Online. The publisher was forced to temporarily take the game offline because s...
Get your croc mask on
Metal Gear Online may have a number of issues preventing it from achieving greatness, but it's still a decent diversion, and a nice bonus on top of Metal Gear Solid V. Now it's headed off of consoles, as MGO is entering ...
Is it Big Boss pachinko?
[Update: Konami may have posted this listing earlier in the year, but it's still up currently. We've reached out to the publisher for more information.]
Oh Konami. At this point, the damage has been done. Kojima is gone,...
Got a PC? Then you've got a computer!
The personal computer ("PC," to those in the know) is always good for a clutch of unexpected surprises and in 2015 it was no different. There heavy hitters are there, from Metal Gear to The Witcher.
But there is also an unexp...
A weapon to surpass Metal Gear...
Now that 2015 is officially over and there's definitely no more massive holidays to attend or anything like that everyone's going to start getting all retrospective and I'm going to kick it off by waxing nostalgic for...
Just like Snake's arm
Putting the US PlayStation Phantom Pain price of $45 (25%) to shame, the European PlayStation Blog just kicked off its 12 Deals of Christmas and day one of deals is half off Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on either PS3 ...
Peace Day comes to PC last
In case you missed it, the Metal Gear series has always had a pretty strong anti-nuclear message, and it's never been more literal than in Metal Gear Solid V, the multiplayer "FOB" component of which allows players ...
Promises to continue Metal Gear support
Konami has confirmed yesterday's reports that it closed Konami LA, the studio responsible for the Metal Gear Online portion of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The Los Angeles studio, formerly Kojima Productions LA befor...
Right after reports of closing Konami LA
Konami seems to have closed its LA studio, formerly Kojima Productions LA before Konami scrubbed the Metal Gear Solid creator's name from as many places as it could. The studio opened in 2012 and most recently was responsible...
It's about sending a message
According to multiple industry sources (including former Dtoid CEO Hamza Aziz!), Konami has closed its Los Angeles studio, formerly known as Kojima Productions Los Angeles.
Duke Nukem creator George Broussard was on...
Famed cosplayer Masazi visited TGS recently with a really badass Raiden costume, but it was tough to get a good look at it. Now you can see the entire outfit in video form, hosted and directed by the Rescue the Princess YouTube channel.
The attention to detail is insane, as the mask actually opens up on multiple levels. Hats off to Masazi for one of her best costumes yet.
Escape From New York director
John Carpenter (Ghosts of Mars; Gorgon, the Space Monster) recently talked to Hollywood Reporter about his successful plagiarism suit against French director Luc Besson (Léon: The Professional) whose recent film Lockou...
[Update: Yep, it was the DLC that already was announced. Apparently Microsoft pulled the trigger early on the add-ons.]
Konami just sent over the weirdest press release, presumably to get more people to spend money on Metal G...
A real dog
Although I don't post many cosplay updates, I'm a big proponent of the craft. I love going to conventions and seeing people play their favorite characters, as the community seems to really, truly enjoy it. The enthusiasm is i...
He's not dead, just sleeping
Yesterday, The New Yorker ran a piece about Hideo Kojima's last day in-office at Konami, including his good-bye party on October 9, and noting that his non-compete expires in December, at which point he can do whatever he lik...
The Phantom Game
Which works better? "The Phantom Game," wherein all of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has a phantom writhing in its codes, a Ghost in the Machine, and also "game" and "pain" are like almost near rhymes; or, the much mor...
Bug or parasite suit feature?
Kojima dedicated a lot of resources to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's jiggly physics, probably because of how many cutscene shots linger on Quiet's rack.
And while Kojima Productions has done better than "women are t...
$179 million day-one dollars
The two movies that made the most opening day money in 2015 (Avengers: Boring Subtitle and Jurassic World, respectively) actually sit at numbers two and three for top-grossing opening day all-time, only beat out by Harry Pott...
It's not over yet, Snake
I've spent a considerable amount of time this week with Metal Gear Online, and despite my initial positive impressions, I'm having some big-picture issues.
In short, I'm not sure how long this train is going to be chugging along, especially when you take Konami's recent history into account.
It's not over yet, Snake
Kojima's departure from Konami has left me all sorts of worried for the future of Metal Gear Solid -- a series that I've enjoyed ever since I laid eyes on the first NES game over 20 years ago. For now though his legacy i...
Par for the course
One of the chief problems I have with the PS4 is the way the storefront (and subsequently, the release of most games) works. Not only has the latest patch mucked up the UI for the PS Store to include more clicks to get what y...
Kept you gamblin' huh?
Oh hey it's another pachinko story today!
Following the recent claims that Konami is moving further away from traditional games development, and is instead focusing on pachinko and mobile markets, they have filed a new tradem...
Fun with mods
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain got a PC release. Thus, the above.
Also that puppy D-Dog swap.
Tactical Nokia Action
Grab a friend (or brother!). Snake? Snake! is competitive Snake starring Solid and Liquid Snakes. The rules are slightly different from the cellphone game you remember. There is a taunt button. Matches last 30 seconds. You ca...
Did you...like it?
Enough time has passed, to the point where we can safely talk about the ending to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
As a common sense sort of reminder, this post below will contain spoilers. The comments will contain spoilers. This is a spoiler-heavy post about spoilers.
Russian soldiers hate them!
So, Chris Carter already provided a handy list of quick tips alongside his review of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. These are essential, life saving tips that will let you complete missions easier and build the le...
Love blooms on the battlefield
Minor spoilers but not really.
So, Quiet is in Metal Gear Solid V, just like the cutscenes and footage from two years ago foretold. As it turns out, modding in Ocelot to take the place of her character model produces some amazing results, which you can see below.
This is why people fight for PC gaming.
(National Geo)graphic warning
I've been ignoring DD a bit in The Phantom Pain after I spent a few missions trying to figure Quiet out, and then ended up sticking with her to try and max out her social link. I do miss being able to pet pup on command.
Then again, if this kind of ungodly behavior is what that wretched beast is going to get up to then I, as a family man, cannot abide.
