Watch us play an hour's worth Destiny's open world photo
Watch us play an hour's worth Destiny's open world
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

The folks at Bungie gave Destructoid full access to the Destiny Alpha just before E3. You may remember that I wasn't all that excited for the game the last time I saw it, but having full freedom to do whatever and being able to discover things on my own has really changed my opinion.

I'm way more excited for Destiny again now, and you can see why as Max Scoville and I play nearly an hour's worth of the open world aspect known as Patrols. Plus we went and checked out the social space hub called The Tower at the very end of our playthrough.

For more on Destiny, check out Chris Carter's full hands-on breakdown, and we'll have some videos of the multiplayer PvP stuff later today.

Final Fantasy XIV's patch 2.28 brings lots of great changes

I play a lot of MMOs, and not all of them are as updated as often as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Traditionally, major patches (2.1, 2.2, and the upcoming 2.3) deliver the stuff everyone wants, like more dungeons, raids...

Final Fantasy XIV set to get patch 2.28 tomorrow

Square Enix has been really great about keeping Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn updated and relevant, and before the massive 2.3 content patch rolls out we'll get a smaller patch in the form of 2.28. What does it do, you as...

War Thunder is available for download on PS4 right now

Hey. Do you want a free PS4 game? It's a pretty good one, a WWII MMO action game where you can blow sh*t (and others) up with planes and tanks, and you can even play against PC and Mac users via cross play. It's a damned goo...

WildStar's server status seems stable for today's launch

In the first entry of my ongoing WildStar Review in Progress, I noted that there were some issues with various PVE and PVP servers over the early access weekend, most notably long queue times that could stretch on for ho...

Review in Progress: WildStar (Early-Access)
by Chris Carter

[We'll be reviewing WildStar over an extended period of time. For more details, check out our new Reviews in Progress program.]

The time has finally come for WildStar to back up all that hype. For years Carbine Studios has said that they will cater to all of the jaded MMO fans out there, as well as the most hardcore of players seeking a challenge -- and that's quite a tall order.

While they haven't quite succeeded with all their claims in the early stages of the game, there's still plenty of time to go on my journey to level 50, and I'm still having a good deal of fun getting there.

Armored Warfare is a videogame about armored warfare

Advanced Armored Warface Frame Fighter is the new tank game from Obsidian, which I guess means it plays a lot like Resident Evil 1-3, except that it's free-to-play and has a less good name. Armored Warfare is so vague yet st...

Watch this World of Speed real world vs. in-game footage

Here's a look at how World of Speed is coming along by way of a real vs. game comparison video. Footage from the upcoming MMO shows a McLaren 12C speeding around Moscow, spliced against real-world footage of the same locales...

Everything you need to know about Destiny is not everything I need to know

Seriously, "Everything you need to know?" A little grandiose, no? Especially for a two minute video. I'm sure there are plenty of things I need to know that are not covered in this video. Heck, the title is "Destiny on PS4 |...

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn made me a fan of MMOs photo
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn made me a fan of MMOs
by Brett Zeidler

I'm generally not that big of a fan of MMOs. I've checked out a good portion of what the genre has to offer, but for many reasons none of the games that I spent some time with could ever keep my interest longer than the beta test/trial period. Not even the mighty World of Warcraft could pull me in like so many other people, and, honestly, it was probably the least interesting MMO I've played.

So why is it that I can't seem to pull myself away from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn?

H1Z1, as I saw it, was almost completely unplayable photo
H1Z1, as I saw it, was almost completely unplayable
by Brett Makedonski

As I was given an introductory overview of H1Z1 before some hands-on time, the development team emphasized how quickly the game was evolving. As it was the latest hardcore zombie survival MMO with open/transparent development, the designers explained that by the time the press saw H1Z1 again, it'd probably be a vastly different game. Cross your fingers that that's the case, because what was shown to me on PC wasn't very presentable.

H1Z1 randomly drops the player directly into an open, yet somewhat forested setting. It's technically eastern Oregon, but it's supposed to feel more like smalltown America. Going into the demo, I was told that surviving the first day would be the goal -- a very difficult goal, at that. Equipped with only an axe and a torch, I was left to fend for myself.

Upon spawning, a mass of zombies that rendered within one another made quick work of me.
