Traveler's Tales talks taking Lord of the Rings LEGO

LEGO can make anything better. Case in point, The Lord of the Rings is (in my meaningless opinion) a drudge of a story that I have failed to enjoy on every encounter. I fully appreciate its place at the core of all fant...

gamescom: Guardians of Middle-Earth gets the Witch-King
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Like Allistair back at E3, Monolith Productions's Guardians of Middle-earth has gotten me interested in the MOBA scene finally. Personally, I've avoided games like DOTA 2, and League of Legends as what I usually see or hear of those games involves hardcore PC master race pro players in the tournament scene.

After Guardians though, I actually want to start getting into MOBAs thanks largely to the easy to understand appeal of the newest Lord of the Rings based game.

gamescom: LEGO LotR has a nice Skyrim vibe going
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

LEGO Lord of the Rings is doing a number of things to really differentiate itself from prior LEGO titles. The biggest change is that this one provides a more seamless, open world design to the exploration, akin to that of Skyrim.

Warner Bros. Seattle studios hit with lay-offs

The videogame industry really is a strange one. Even though it gets bigger and bigger every year (even surpassing both the film and music industries), it sometimes feels like we're talking about studio closings and lay-offs a...

Hands-on with mounted combat in LOTRO: Riders of Rohan
by Joshua Derocher

The Lord of the Rings Online: Riders of Rohan continues to follow the epic story of the fellowship as they make their way towards Mordor. This new expansion adds the area of Rohan, a land filled with badasses on horses. Players will get a chance to be one such badass with the introduction of mounted combat to LOTRO.

It's more than just being able to cast spells on a horse, however. This system brings all new mechanics to the game that emphasize speed and mobility.

Gawk at Gandalf and Gollum in Guardians of Middle-earth

Warner Brothers' Guardians of Middle-earth is looking good thus far, but this trailer for the Lord of the Rings MOBA leaves something of a chalky taste in the mouth. Even if you're among the initiated, it's not particul...

E3: Guardians of Middle-earth won this non-LOTR fan over photo
E3: Guardians of Middle-earth won this non-LOTR fan over
by Allistair Pinsof

Before I got my hands on the DOTA-inspired Guardians of Middle-earth and talked to the development team behind it, I thought MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) was some type of Asian drink. My roommate plays League of Legends obsessively and I’m familiar with the RTS sub-genre’s history, but I don’t know the first thing about how you play these games.

That’s okay, though -- Monolith Productions and Warner Bros. are making a new starting point for gamers and it’s all wrapped around a faithful representation of the fantasy genre’s most popular franchise. Best of all, you can play Guardians of Middle-earth on your couch with a controller and it’s a complete blast.

The Lord of the Rings Online is now free on Steam

Finally! This is my favorite free-to-play MMO and I can't recommend it enough. It doesn't have the same level of polish as a lot of new games like Rift or Star Wars: The Old Republic, but it does a great job of imme...
