Japanator's December Contest: 30 days of giving photo
Japanator's December Contest: 30 days of giving
by 8BitBrian

A lot of things come across my desk over at the Japanator office. Oftentimes, it's kind of hard to do a review of a volume 8 of this series or DVD 13 of that one, simply because I don't want to go and buy all the leadup volumes. So, we put them in a bin, saving them up for a contest at the end of the year. Now it's time to unleash the box and give away something every day.

The contest runs just like Samit's wordplay contest from a few weeks back. I'll prompt you with three categories, and you need to respond with items that fit the bill. Of course, once someone gives a response, it nulls out all future uses of it. The winner will be whoever posted the 75th (at least in today's contest) item. So, it won't necessarily be the 25th respondant -- it might be the 30th or 50th, or anything in between.

Today's contest has just gone live, so head over to Japanator and try and win yourself some anime and manga. Keep coming back, because it'll be a new mystery prize each day. And, I might as well mention that on each Friday, the prizes will be a bit bigger than on the other days.

Reminder: Japanator's New York Anime Fest contest ends soon photo
Reminder: Japanator's New York Anime Fest contest ends soon
by 8BitBrian

Listen up, punks. Japantor's New York Anime Fest contest ends in 3 days, on Sept. 10th. If you live anywhere remotely near New York, then you should do yourself a favor and enter this contest. The New York Anime Fest is going to be a blast, especially with the DtoidNY team gathering together.

So, what do you need to do in order to get these tickets? Sit down in front of your computer for just a minute. Since you've already got that part done, just pull out your headset and microphone, and record one (or all, if you choose) of these lines:

For those who want to show off their manliness:

  • Kamina from Gurren Lagann: "Listen up, Simon. Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me! Believe in me, who believes in you!"

  • Akira from Lucky Star: "But when it comes to being loved by the maniac-types, well, I have all the pedos..."

And for those who want to show the tender side of their hearts:

That's all I could find for clips of the quotes, but for Kamina's line, simply put your heart and soul into it and deliver the line in as manly and confident a way as possible. For Nia's line, just be innocent and confused.

Now really, it won't take you all that long to say the line. It won't take you much longer to attach it to an email and send it off to tips@japanator.com. We look forward to hearing your entries!

The lovely ladies of Comiket 74

Comiket is the mecca for otaku. It's nothing like we've seen before at Otakon or at E3. The mainstay of the con isn't announcements or hands-on -- it's doujinshi. Comiket is a chance for doujinshi circles to show off their la...

Japanator Contest: Win tickets to New York Anime Fest! photo
Japanator Contest: Win tickets to New York Anime Fest!
by 8BitBrian

Sure, you may be at PAX or on your way there, but there's another con on the horizon that you might want to set your sights on: New York Anime Fest. While it's only in its second year, they're going to have high-end guests like Yoshitaka Amano and Hideyuki Kikuchi.

Over at Japanator, we've got four tickets to the New York Anime Fest to give away, and the contest is rather simple: just put on your headset, and spend ten seconds recording any one of four lines (or all of them, if you so choose) from Lucky Star and Gurren Lagann. Really, it's a simple way to get yourself a free pass that'd normally cost you quite a bit.

Plus, you'll get to meet me! Isn't that a whole 'nother prize in and of itself? So head on over to Japanator. The contest is running for two weeks, so be sure to get your entries in. The show is going to be a blast, I assure you. The con is going to be amazing enough to kick common sense to the curb and make the impossible possible.
