Oh, that Ganondorf!
Musical troupe Random Encounters has gifted the Internet a nice holiday-themed production starring that bottomless well of happiness and cheer, Ganondorf! Listen as he and Princess Peach regale us with a song about Ganon Claus, noble benefactor and malicious fiend alike.
Speaking of Christmas, only four days left. I'm ready to get fat.

If you would have told me 10 years ago that games would be sold as digital downloads, I would have sh*t my pants. And if you told me that every holiday these games would go on sale, I would have sh*t my sh*t. We take these ho...
Sound Shapesis a really special game. Even more special is the game's community, which supports it with absolutely amazing new levels/songs every single day. Queasy Games has realized this, and to show their undying love for the community they're releasing the free Holiday Sound Pack right now. Just start your game up (while connected to the internet), and that's it! It's like Christmas morning, except it's December 19th and you're probably still at work or school.
What exactly will you be getting in this pack? Well, you'll have five brand-new Christmas-themed instruments from classic carols that you and your peers of the Sound Shapescommunity get to play with. I can't wait for someone to recreate Led Zeppelin II or something with them. Actually, I think that'll now be my goal for the rest of the day.
Happy Holidays right back at all you guys over at Queasy Games. Oh, and quit being so freaking adorable.

[Update: The chipWINter Bandcamp page is up! There was an opportunity to purchase a limited edition audio cassette of the album, but it sold out in five minutes. Damn!]
It's the holiday seasoooooooooon!
Brandon Hood of "Chiptunes = WIN" organized the original 51-track behemoth for release back in June. In October, he followed up with an expansion featuring a reduced count of 22 tracks. For the hat trick, there is a modest collection of 14 songs from 14 artists. A far cry from the disgusting excess of the first album, sure, but no less appreciated by the discerning chiptune lover.
As the name implies, chipWINter is holiday-themed delight with which to warm yourself on those cold December nights. I especially love that the lead track is a chip arrangement of Vince Guaraldi's famous "Linus an Lucy" off the A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. Very classy!
At 9 PM EST, there was a chipWINter listening party on 8bitX Radio's "8 Bit Power Hour," after which the album went live for free on Bandcamp. Now go get it, boyo!
[Special thanks to Jonathan Ross, Brett, and Dale for helping me put this all together. The list would have been much more dull without their creative suggestions.]
For me, gift guides have always been more about the fun of imagining yourself possessing things you don't particularly need and likely can't afford rather than using them to actually figure out what you want to buy for your loved ones. Isn't that what Amazon wishlists are for?
As we saw in our holiday gift guide for software, games are one thing -- especially given the high quality of digital-only titles and frequency of heavy discounts on the more expensive releases. But hardware? That's where I start to delve into daydreaming territory.
More than anything else, this gift guide is focused on suggesting "cool stuff" that you wouldn't mind receiving as a gift or treating yourself to. It really is the thought that counts, and since we don't personally know your friends and family (that well), the truly thoughtful, tearjerker gifts are solely on you. With all that said, let's dive right in.
The NPD group says that Nintendo moved more than 1.75 million hardware units in November. The power of Black Friday pushed 910,000 portable systems and 845,000 home consoles into shopping bags last month.
The breakdown ...
It's the most wonderful time of the year! And I truly believe that. While Thanksgiving is easily my favorite holiday, Christmas is a close second, and I've always made an iPod playlist with tons of holiday music that I roll out the day after Thanksgiving.
Recently, I had people ask me what kind of music I put on my Christmas playlist, and I realized I had a lot of game tracks! So what better way to kick off the Christmas season than with ten of my favorite holiday themes from videogames!
As usual, we can't include everything in a short top ten list, so feel free to chime in with some of your favorites as well, and together we'll hopefully have a pretty sizable list of music to enjoy this Christmas season!
While I'll always roll my eyes at people that say things like 'I won't get out in that mess' on Black Friday (I'm going shopping later today), there's nothing wrong with a bit of holiday shopping for digital downloads. Square...
It is Thanksgiving Day, that day we celebrate Christopher Columbus sailing to Nazareth in a gigantic turkey, and we are to be grateful for all the wonderful things that have happened at us over the course of our short, and ul...
So you think you've picked out something original for the children in your life for this holiday season? Put it back. They don't want that crap. Nielsen's data shows that they want Apple products or a Wii U.
Starting this Black Friday shopping season, on November 23, Nintendo will offer a Flame Red Nintendo 3DS bundle, packaged with one of the best games for the system, Super Mario 3D Land, priced at only $169.99. That's like getting the game for free. Not a bad deal!
Get in line at your least crazy big box retailer this weekend to nab the bundle.
And he doesn't look a a day over 50! How does he manage to stay so young?
There are many notable game developers who have influenced the course of the industry, but arguably none are more well-known and beloved than Shigeru M...
Are you going to the mall later, that's what I'm asking.
