I don't think I'll mind getting lost in The Witness

I'm looking out my window as I type this and what I see is a mostly overcast sky and lots of drab grays and blues. It's sleepy. What I'd rather be looking at are these warm, teeming-with-life screenshots from Jonathan Blow's ...

Pre-order Wolfenstein, get access to the next Doom game photo
Pre-order Wolfenstein, get access to the next Doom game
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

You'll get to shoot Nazi faces off in Wolfenstein: The New Order starting on May 20, 2014 in North America, and May 23, 2014 in Europe.

Typically release date confirmations would be a story on its own, but Bethesda has sweetened the pot here as pre-ordering the new shooter will also get you access into the beta for Doom 4. Note that Bethesda is referring to it as the "next Doom game" instead of as Doom 4. A reboot, perhaps? The Wolfenstein site has a little more info regarding the beta.

Along with that the release date and the next Doom game beta is this new trailer that starts off with a bang. Literally, look at those President heads explode. Bethesda sure knows how to make killer trailers.

Spacemen, Zorros & foxes: Conception II shows off babies

Not to make a thing of it, but why are half the girl babies slightly less clothed than the boys? Maybe it's just the Rob Liefeld-lite uncomfortably arched back in the above photo that's bothering me. She looks like Christian ...

These Xenogears mecha made of Legos are incredible

Long before Xenogears became my favorite game of all time, Legos were my favorite toy of all time. So seeing the two combined is a thrill for me. Lego user diegocabrera has put together some of the mecha from the PlayStation ...

New Mythical Pokemon Diancie is a Fairy-Rock

Diancie, as well as the new Pokemon movie it will be featured in, leaked a couple days ago, but now we have official confirmation and some more screenshots. The rare Pokemon won't be found in normal gameplay, but Nintendo isn't yet spilling how you can acquire it. It looks like an arrowhead with a shirt and crystals up top. Shine on you crazy diamond.

This special edition 3DS XL is for Yoshi fanatics

There was talk of an incoming Yoshi-themed 3DS XL but we had to resort to using our imaginations. These official images from Nintendo are much better. The limited-edition system will arrive on the same day as Yoshi's New Isla...

Borderlands 2's final Headhunter DLC goes to the beach

MLB 14 The Show gets a big visual boost from PS4 power photo
MLB 14 The Show gets a big visual boost from PS4 power
by Dale North

We had a chance to take a peek at the PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show this past week at a preview event, and it was clear from the get go that the game benefits greatly from the power that the PS4 provides. Now, it's not like the PS3 version isn't a great looking game, but a quick side-by-side comparison showed that the PS4 version will be the one to get for MLB fans.

If you can wait about a month, that is. The PS3 and Vita versions step to the mound in April, and the PS4 will follow in May.

Why Titanfall will be my next big gaming obsession photo
Why Titanfall will be my next big gaming obsession
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

It was the beginning of 2013 when I finally just got tired of the competitive aspect of first-person shooters. It's been my favorite genre ever since the GoldenEye 64 days, but over the last few years I've just been losing more and more interest in them. That's not to say there haven't been some great competitive FPS games of course. PlanetSide 2, Tribes: Ascend, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and Halo 4 were some of the last ones I really got into, and while they were great, they just weren't able to hold my interest for long.

And outside of playing them for the purpose of coverage on Destructoid at preview events, I didn't even touch Call of Duty: Ghosts or Battlefield 4's multiplayer after they launched. Playing the preview builds was enough for me, a "been there, done that" sort of feeling.

Titanfall, though -- it's the game-changer for me. I've played it in shorts bursts at E3 and PAX, but last week I got to go hands-on for several hours, and feel confident in saying it makes me feel as if I'm rediscovering the genre like I did in the Nintendo 64 days.

Go and sign-up for the Titanfall beta RIGHT NOW (Update)
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

[Update: The Titanfall beta kicks off on February 14 for the Xbox One and PC as revealed by this new trailer. There will be two maps available, and three modes which are Attrition (team deathmatch), Hardpoint Domination, and a Last Titan Standing gametype where everyone starts in a Titan in a round-based mode that ends when one team has lost all of their Titans as there is no respawning or replacement Titans.]

You will be emailed by EA no later than 11:59PM PST on February 17 if you've been selected to enter. You also have until February 14 at 4PM PST to register for the beta period. Good luck!

For those of you that don't make it in you can expect some coverage of Titanfall's beta to appear this week on Destructoid, and we'll be doing some live gameplay of Titanfall on our Twitch channel too.

Sega reveals new Sonic Boom sub-franchise and game photo
Sega reveals new Sonic Boom sub-franchise and game
by Chris Carter

At the "Year of Sonic" event, Sega has revealed Sonic Boom -- a new sub-franchise in the Sonic world. The new brand will not only sport the previously announced TV show, but two new games on the Wii U and 3DS. This is part of the exclusive deal with Nintendo.

The Wii U game will be headed up by developer Big Red Button (led by a former Naughty Dog art director), and the 3DS version will be handled by Sanzaru Games (the studio that developed the new Sly Cooper). The games will serve as a prequel to the CG TV show.

We didn't get a hands on session, but based on the footage we've seen of the Wii U version, the worlds look massive (although it is confirmed that it is not one open world), and projectile combat seems to be in. In other words, Sonic Boom is looking a lot like Ratchet & Clank right now. It's also important to note that the CryEngine 3 will be used on the Wii U, and that this version is confirmed to support co-op play.

Sega of America president and COO John Chen stressed that "Sonic Boom will not be replacing the original franchise."
