Wake up from the nightmare
When Bloodborne launched, I provided a series of tips for newcomers. They're still very much relevant for the dawn of the Old Hunters DLC pack, which debuts today, but I figured I'd provide a few add-on specific pieces of info.
Note that there are light non-specific spoilers involved.
Step by step
Bloodborne, much like its predecessors, is a relatively esoteric game. Even simple things like locating a $20 DLC package can be hidden beneath the surface, so here's a quick rundown of how to enter the Old Hunters add-...
All Nightmare Long
While many gamers out there are fighting the good fight against DLC, From Software is certainly making the case for it. Dark Souls had one of the most fantastic add-ons of all time in the form of Artorias of the Abyss, w...
Says creator Miyazaki
From Software's Hidetaka Miyazaki has some sad news for fans of the Souls series -- the upcoming Dark Souls III might be it.
Speaking to GameSpot, Miyazaki states, "I don't think it'd be the right choice to continue...
In preparation for that new DLC
If you're an avid Bloodborne fan eagerly awaiting more content, you're likely already aware that The Old Hunters is just four days away from launch. What you might not have been aware of is that a 9GB patch for the game lande...
Well, maybe $500
If you're dropping $500 bones on a collector's edition of a game, you likely want to know what you're getting. Like, you really want to know. You're gonna want multiple angles and up-close shots to know that everything in it ...
And a possible release date leak
Thanks to yet another retailer slip-up, we have new information that a publisher was trying to guard. This time it comes courtesy of Geekay Games, and it seems as if we now know about Dark Souls III's collector's editions and...
As part of a patch, not the expansion
Even if you're planning to pass on The Old Hunters expansion for Bloodborne later this month, there will still be a reason to revisit Yharnam. From Software is preparing a free patch that will introduce another covenant, The ...
One of my fondest gaming memories this year is playing Dark Souls III -- that time where I was the first to beat the boss in my preview group, and Steven beat it without dying. Good times.
These screens are making me&nbs...
Every game gets GOTY these days
I find it funny when developers release GOTY editions when the title completely doesn't deserve it. It's always interesting to see how marketing hype plays into some re-releases, as a bunch of titles don't even get the "Of th...
And other assorted tidbits
YouTuber VaatiVidya is back with another Bloodborne lore video. This time, he examines a slew of smaller discoveries that didn't make it into his prior videos. A few of them surprised me.
Pebbles being eyes, for one, because ...
But it's not quite ready to play
Prepare to die again, this time in a possibly buggy fashion. From Software is conducting a network stress test for Dark Souls III on PlayStation 4 in the very near future. This amounts to an open-ish beta, and the barrie...
It was too early into the PS4 life-cycle
In recent years, From Software's come into an increasingly fortuitous situation with its games. The cult classic Demon's Souls has grown into a mainstream series after the critical and commercial acclaim of Dark Souls&nb...
Hooray, Dark Souls is done forever
Despite not being the biggest fan of Dark Souls, I’ve been strangely invested in tracking Twitch Plays Dark Souls’ progress. It’s been a wild journey, from spending over three days stuck in the game’s...
More than just a pizza cutter
As we found out last week at the Tokyo Game Show, Bloodborne is getting an expansion titled The Old Hunters. The trailer showed a lot of loud weapons and things dying horribly, but that’s just par fo...
You'll need a PlayStation 4 and PS Plus
My favorite part of this beta sign-up page for Dark Souls III is that you can shake the guy by wiggling your mouse from side to side. Life's a lot more fun when you treasure the little things.
Anyway, the actual beta registra...
I'm with Chris in that I don't see myself getting tired of From Software's action-RPGs anytime soon. Fatigue hasn't set in yet. That said, the opening areas of Dark Souls III aren't exactly fresh.
See for yourself! This footage from TGS 2015 covers the same stuff Steven and Chris previewed.
It doesn't feel like a $20 expansion
When Bloodborne: The Old Hunters was announced, I was ecstatic to get back into the world of Yharnam again. After all, I beat Bloodborne three times after just one week with it, and thoroughly enjoyed the more action-oriented gameplay compared to its predecessors.
Based on my playthrough of a demo at TGS however, my excitement has been curbed a bit.
Put that thing out of its misery
Some of us are going to face this monstrosity in Bloodborne's first and hopefully not final expansion, The Old Hunters, in late November. Please wish us luck. I'm having Bloodletting Beast flashbacks.
You've probably seen the...
Coming November 24
Time to go back to Yharnam, Hunters. Sony just announced the first expansion for Bloodborne at its Tokyo Game Show press conference. Hope more dying is cool with you.
On November 24, 2015, the add-on titled The Old Hunte...
Seems like they actually did git gud
Well this is embarrassing. Twitch Plays Dark Souls is officially now doing better in the game than I ever have. They’ve beaten what is considered by some to be the game’s most difficult boss: Ornstein & Smoug...
Focused on creating CG assets for now
From Software is establishing a new studio in Fukuoka, the company announced today.
The satellite, formed to expand the company's existing development capabilities, intends to focus its efforts on "creating 3D CG assets for g...
No western release date just yet
Dark Souls III is debuting on March 24, 2016, at least on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Japan.
From Software has yet to reveal release information regarding the PC or international versions, but the developer has promised to ...
Fast travel, hidden walls return
Steven and Chris both tried their hands at Dark Souls III last month. Despite the increase in overall speed and the addition of the Battle Arts mechanic, they both came away with the opinion that it felt like m...
Nobody does it better
Despite not touching Bloodborne in quite a while, the game kept coming up in conversations (some sober, some not) at PAX this past weekend. Kyle and I tried to sell Steven and Brett on it. Zack and I talked at length about ga...
It still has the modded pause feature
When Twitch Plays Dark Souls managed to get to the first boss of the game, there was quite the commotion. Sadly, it seems as if they just couldn't manage it amidst all the chaos, and thus, they decided to cheat.
How did they ...
God save Ringo and his Robot Army
Britain, Britain, Britain! Over the years we’ve been known for a lot: tea, monocles, the Queen, imperialism, and at one point… video games. We had it all, from the Sinclair ZX Spectrum to Rockstar Games, Britain ...
Planning 'several new projects'
Dark Souls III is not the last game in the series, but it is a "turning point," the last From Software game which began development before its new president took over in 2014.
"Dark Souls is my life's work," From Software pre...
When I wrote about why Souls games are not that hard earlier this year, I told you all that I was neither expert (under 30 series hours total) nor savant (not skilled at anything).
And yet, this lumbering galoot, after quite ...
I also see a few problem areas
It's crazy to think that we're on the verge of yet another Souls game right after Bloodborne and Scholar of the First Sin. From Software doesn't seem to rest, and as soon as the studio has wrapped up one project, it's on...
