Go download your free D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die and MX vs. ATV Alive
by Jordan Devore

I'm downloading Swery's Dark Dreams Don't Die right now. You should do the same, assuming you have an Xbox One and an Xbox Live Gold membership. The quirky adventure game is free throughout January as part of Microsoft's Games with Gold program. Queue her up!

On the Xbox 360 front, MX vs. ATV Alive is available for free now through January 15, followed by The Witcher 2 from January 16 through the end of the month. I'd consider grabbing the former out of curiosity but I don't have the hard drive space to spare. Blasted thing.

Lost Constellation is a pay-what-you-want Night In The Woods ghost story photo
Lost Constellation is a pay-what-you-want Night In The Woods ghost story
by Jonathan Holmes

The success of Night In The Woods on Kickstarter once again proved that the best way to win at crowd funding is to create something that people actively want to lob on to their own image/identity. So many games on Kikcstarter look fun, well made, and interesting, but they lack that charm that drives others to wave the game's flag and join up with its developers.

Would Obama have become President if those "Hope" images didn't make cool t-shirts and desktop wallpapers? Would so many people have proudly backed KONY 2012 if the campaign had targeted an evildoer with a harder to pronounce name? Probably not. Marketing is everything, and though it may sound obvious, the most important part of marketing is being marketable.

Thankfully, a lot of marketable games are also genuinely great. If reaction to Lost Constellation is any indication, Night In The Woods will fit that bill. This Holiday-themed romp is available now for the suggested price of $5, but how much you pay is up to you. I haven't gotten a chance to play it myself, but if it's anywhere as good as this, we'll all have cause to laugh and be disillusioned at the same time. What a feeling!

Vlambeer is giving away free copies of Nuclear Throne in January photo
Vlambeer is giving away free copies of Nuclear Throne in January
by Rob Morrow

Rami Ismail of Vlambeer has come up with a creative and generous way to effectively double the Nuclear Throne community while at the same time saying thanks to all those who supported the Early Access title during 2014.

As of January 1, 2015, owners of the delightful top-down shooter will receive a free, giftable copy that Ismail hopes you'll pass along to friends who in turn will provide valuable feedback as the team finishes up work on the title later in the year.

"You've become really adept Nuclear Throne players, and we want to call upon you for your help. We need new players, people that are great players, that would love Nuclear Throne, and we need them to be part of our community. We're sure you know somebody like that, and if you do, we want to ask you to invite them to the Nuclear Throne community. We need fresh eyes on the game, people that will still get decimated by Big Bandit and that will complain about the ravens in the scrapyard. We need to know how they feel about Nuclear Throne, and we need your help to reach them."

Rami's just the best, isn't he? Anyways, the offer's also good for new purchases made until January, so if you've been waiting to try it out for yourself and would enjoy having a second copy to pass along to a friend, this is your golden opportunity.

Contest: Win a PlayStation TV and an Xbox One controller courtesy of Titan One!
by Mr Andy Dixon

To celebrate the news that their Titan One cross-compatibility device now offers full support for Sony's PlayStation TV, our friends at ConsoleTuner are offering up a PlayStation TV, Xbox One controller, and Titan One adapter to one lucky Dtoider!

The PS TV is just the latest in the long line of devices supported by the Titan One, which allows cross-play between your favorite consoles and controllers, controller modding, and more! That means you can, for example, plug a Microsoft controller into a piece of Sony hardware (or vice versa) and have it work seamlessly, right out of the box. It's pretty awesome!

For a chance to try this out for yourself, just leave a comment in the thread below! Limit one entry per person, and you have until next Wednesday, December 31 at 11:59pm Pacific to enter. Contest is open to anyone with a US mailing address (unless you're a HUGE member, of course).

Good luck! And remember, our Huge Members get automatic entry into all contests (and double entries if you enter one manually), exclusive beta code giveaways for upcoming games, ad-free browsing, and more! And most of all, your $3's a month helps directly support the site you love. Try us out!

Amazon's gift to you is free (good) Android titles and (more) cheap videogame downloads photo
Amazon's gift to you is free (good) Android titles and (more) cheap videogame downloads
by Brett Makedonski

[Update: There are a handful of new deals on videogame downloads, as well as some decent savings on other stuff -- including some portable hard drives that make great external storage for gaming consoles. All updated discounts are toward the top of the list; everything from yesterday's post is underneath it. As is customary, updated Amazon posts get bonus Grohl. #BonusGrohl]

Well, it's tough to argue with this -- free Android games on Amazon, several of which are quality titles. Five Nights at Freddy's? Sure, I'll try it out. Terraria? I'll give it a shot. Tetris? Never heard of it, but maybe it's okay.

When reached for comment, Dave Grohl said that he approved of free mobile games, but he couldn't fully endorse the deals on PC titles. "Even though I'm the sexiest of international rock stars, I'm still wary of paying for videogames," Grohl commented. "Yes, I have more money than I know what to do with, but everyone's trying to sell me computer games. Steam, Amazon, everyone. It's tiring." Grohl concluded by yelling "THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST..." until Destructoid was irked enough to hang up the phone.

It's now easier to unlock Bruce Lee in EA Sports UFC
by Jordan Devore

Martial artist Bruce Lee is in EA Sports UFC, somehow. You can play as him after besting Career Mode on Pro difficulty or higher, or instantly if you pre-ordered the game. Because money.

That's how it was, anyway. Electronic Arts is now offering Lee (for all weight classes) as a free download on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live until January 5, 2015.

So do that, if you want. Or unlock him the hard way.

D4, The Witcher 2, and MX vs. ATV Alive free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers in January photo
D4, The Witcher 2, and MX vs. ATV Alive free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers in January
by Jordan Devore

I got an Xbox One the other week. One of the first things I did after spending far too long finding a place for the Kinect to reside that wasn't obnoxiously front and center was to see which system-exclusive games I had up until now missed. Looking over the marketplace, not many titles jumped out at me, though there weren't many to begin with. Here's to you, 2015. You'll treat us well.

Dark Dreams Don't Die was at the top of my informal list of must-play Xbox One games because of its director, Swery (of Deadly Premonition and Spy Fiction fame) but I got sidetracked that day. And I'm thankful I did: the episodic adventure game is going to be free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers throughout January. Talk about a palate cleanser after this month's freebie Worms Battlegrounds.

On the Xbox 360 front, Gold members will be able to download MX vs. ATV Alive from January 1 - January 15, and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings from January 16 - January 31.

OC ReMix celebrates turning 15 with, yep, you guessed it
by Jordan Devore

OverClocked ReMix has given us a ton of amazing remixes over the years. Longer than I realize, sometimes -- the game music community celebrated its 15th anniversary this week. Crazy.

For the big one-five, the site has released 15 new remixes from 15 different game systems. You can listen to those here, free of charge. Lot of fun titles on the list, including Chrono Trigger, Demon's Souls, and, haha, Super Mario Sunshine. Here's to 15 more years.

Got a favorite OC ReMix album? Mine is Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business.

Sure, I'll take a free copy of SimCity 2000 on Origin
by Jordan Devore

I never thought I'd have this many games attached to my Origin account, but here we are with yet another On the House offer from Electronic Arts I might as well claim. You know, just to have.

SimCity 2000 is free (read: free to keep, not free to play for a limited time) so get on that.

I think the last time I seriously played this was in, gosh, middle school? It's been a while.

Grab some free tunes from the Dungeonmans soundtrack photo
Grab some free tunes from the Dungeonmans soundtrack
by Darren Nakamura

I spent a lot of time listening to Hitoshi Sakimoto's work with the soundtrack for Final Fantasy Tactics. Heck, it is still in my rotation for background music during board game nights. From the sound of it, Andrew "zircon" Aversa did the same, as he composed the soundtrack for the Kickstarter-funded roguelike Dungeonmans taking inspiration from Sakimoto.

We have some exclusive tracks available for download. "Cimmerian Cavern" is subdued, and like a musty cave, it almost feels damp itself. "The Tower Invincible" evokes a more adventurous feeling, like a song played by minstrels as knights march into battle. Check them out below, or head to OverClocked for the full album.
