by Mr Andy Dixon

[Update: The beta weekend has been extended until Monday!]

Our friends at NCSoft and Carbine Studios have hooked us up with 5,000 beta keys for their hot new MMO WildStar!

The beta weekend starts tomorrow at 7am and ends on Sunday Monday at 11:59pm Pacific. To snag your code, just head on over to your code redemption page and click the button! Once you've got your key, go sign up for an NCSoft account if you don't already have one, then click the "Apply A Code" button at the top of a page. If you like what you see, head on over to the WildStar pre-order page and secure yourself early access to the full game in late May.

Have fun! And don't forget, fans who play the beta can earn free items for launch! For each day players log into the game between now and launch (during pre-order weekends as well as Open Beta), accounts will receive 3 Boom Boxes at launch. These boxes can be used once per day to receive a random assortment of possible goodies, including XP buffs, unique runes, weapons, housing items, unique costumes, mounts, and more!

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds free Zomboss Down DLC photo
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds free Zomboss Down DLC
by Jordan Devore

I'm not sure which alternate dimension Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare came from or how it got here but PopCap's wacky third-person shooter has been a pleasant surprise. Against all odds, the game keeps on giving: another free DLC pack called Zomboss Down is out today, adding eight new characters and the Cactus Canyon map for Gardens and Graveyards mode.

The character level cap has also been increased to level 30, complete with new challenges to conquer, and there are 200+ customization items for the new cast of plants and zombies. Even though the last DLC release was free, I'm still surprised to see this one follow the same plan and PopCap not overwhelm players with microtransactions. Gosh, what a terrific game.

Forza Motorsport 5 gets another free track tomorrow photo
Forza Motorsport 5 gets another free track tomorrow
by Jordan Devore

Additional tracks for Forza Motorsport 5 is a very good thing indeed, I think we can all agree. Especially when they're delivered as free DLC. Like the Road America track before it, Turn 10 is giving away another course, southern California's Long Beach Circuit, starting tomorrow.

As per usual with add-on tracks, Long Beach will be playable across all of Forza 5's modes. There's also a Long Beach Booster Pack containing five new vehicles on the way, although this is unsurprisingly only free for Car Pass owners. Those cars are: the 1977 Ford Coyote Gilmore77, the 1974 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, the 1956 Jaguar D-Type, the 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG Mercedes CLK GTR, and the 1971 Ferrari #2 Ferrari Automobili 312 P.

Contest: Win a custom iPad Mini courtesy of Evolution! photo
Contest: Win a custom iPad Mini courtesy of Evolution!
by Mr Andy Dixon

To celebrate the launch of their new game Evolution on the App Store, our friends at My.com have given us a brand new, custom-skinned iPad Mini to give away to one lucky Dtoider! Retailing at $299, this 16GB iPad comes pre-loaded with a copy of Evolution, and they're throwing in a cute 3D sandstone statue of the game's "Fido" character (seen in the gallery below) to boot. Woof!

In Evolution, players step into the boots of top human operatives on a mission to explore, chart, and uncover the dark secrets of a mysterious paradise gone silent -- the planet Utopia. Players will engage in real-time battles, dive deep into the game’s storyline, and encounter dozens of complex and identifiable characters, all while discovering what truly lies beneath the ashes of a ruined planet.

To enter the contest, just leave a comment in this thread! Limit one entry per person, and you have until next Friday, April 11 at 11:59pm Pacific to enter. Contest is open to anyone with a US mailing address.

Good luck! And don't forget, our Huge members get automatic entry into all contests (as well as a bunch of other awesome perks). It's pretty great!

Silent Horror soundtrack is back from the dead and ready to download photo
Silent Horror soundtrack is back from the dead and ready to download
by Darren Nakamura

Back in 2005, a small team made Silent Horror, an independent film homage to survival horror, with obvious nods to the legendary Silent Hill franchise. Before he was Destructoid's Editor-in-Chief, Dale North composed the soundtrack for the film, and almost ten years later, it has finally been made widely available to the public.

Since we have the hookup, we are able to offer the Silent Horror Main Theme for free on our SoundCloud. Stream or download it there, or just listen to it below. If you want to hear more, head over to the soundtrack's Bandcamp or Loudr pages. It should provide you with a spooky soundtrack suitable for your day today.

Pocketwatch wraps up Monaco with one final chapter photo
Pocketwatch wraps up Monaco with one final chapter
by Jordan Devore

This is it for Monaco. Pocketwatch Games has already talked about its next project -- a real-time strategy game called Armada specifically built for gamepads -- and now that it has added a fourth, final chapter to the co-op heist game called Monaco: Fin, "it's time to move on."

Recapping the past several years, lead developer Andy Schatz wrote in a blog post that "EVERYTHING has changed" since development began in 2009. "My design philosophy, our lives, Pocketwatch, indie games as a movement, the internet as a whole." He also called Monaco "the culmination of lifelong dreams" for himself and producer/designer Andy Nguyen.

As for Fin, here's Schatz' description: "This campaign is brutally difficult (all eight levels are as hard as Identity) and it concludes the story of the Gentleman and his nefarious crew."

Another map, local multiplayer planned for Goat Simulator photo
Another map, local multiplayer planned for Goat Simulator
by Jordan Devore

Fans have been asking Coffee Stain Studios for Goat Simulator DLC and I can see why: what's there is tremendously funny, goofy stuff but there isn't a ton of it. We're in luck. The studio doesn't want to "charge for new content" so it'll have a free patch for us in mid-May.

Patch 1.1 introduces another playable map that's "roughly the size of the original map," local splitscreen multiplayer, more achievements, and new goats, to name a few of the additions.

Mods have helped extend the life of Goat Simulator but they're not all going to meet expectations set by the core game. Another map from Coffee Stain is exactly what I wanted.

Contest: Win a Steam code for Luftrausers! photo
Contest: Win a Steam code for Luftrausers!
by Beccy Caine

Vlambeer's customisable dogfighter Luftrausers released last week to near-universal praise after an agonising wait in certification that may or may not have contributed to my impending mental breakdown.

One half of the indie duo, Rami Ismail, was kind enough to give me five Steam codes to celebrate the launch and while I'm reluctant to give even more people the opportunity to beat my high score, I should probably share.

PSA: Sonic CD is free for Android for 7 more hours
by Steven Hansen

Apparently-controller-compatible Sonic CD is Amazon's free Android app of the day for about seven more hours. This staggering deal will literally save you dollars compared to the usual $3 price tag.

Use them well. I'm going to buy a lottery ticket and burn the other two as sacrifice. For luck.

Hitman: Absolution, Deadlight are April's free Games with Gold photo
Hitman: Absolution, Deadlight are April's free Games with Gold
by Jordan Devore

The featured titles in Microsoft's Games with Gold promotion have tended to not be compelling, I think most of us can agree. April shows signs of improvement, with Hitman: Absolution available to Xbox Live Gold members for free from April 1 - 15, and Deadlight offered from April 16 - 30.

I hadn't yet played the game, but our own Brett Makedonski shared this advice for Deadlight: "Get it for free, play the first bit, then put it down forever."

Let's hope this pair is the beginning of moderately good things to come for Games with Gold.

Mercenary Kings, Batman: Arkham City free for PlayStation Plus photo
Mercenary Kings, Batman: Arkham City free for PlayStation Plus
by Steven Hansen

I kept forgetting to buy into Mercenary Kings' Early Access, but now who's the shrewd consumer, huh? Mercenary Kings is going to be free with PlayStation Plus tomorrow. Oh, on PS4? Damn. Almost.

Meanwhile, PS3 owners get to take advantage of Arkham Knight hype and play what is definitely the most recent Batman game, I don't know of any other Batman game that has released since Arkham City, no sir.

There will also be a bunch of Amazing Spiderman junk on sale. Ew, spider junk.

Dead Space is free if you're willing to put up with Origin photo
Dead Space is free if you're willing to put up with Origin
by Jordan Devore

In an effort to get you to finally install Origin, Electronic Arts has begun a new On the House promotion in which "full games, expansions, and more" can be downloaded for free.

The first selection is one those who can deal with horror games ought to play: Dead Space.

Frankly, I'm not sure what else would convince someone to play this for the first time in 2014 other than it being given away for free. While Visceral lost its momentum with Dead Space 3, the two prior games are absolutely worth playing for genre fans -- they hold up well to this day.
