Your first look at the new Wreckage map for Hawken photo
Your first look at the new Wreckage map for Hawken
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Adhesive Games has given Destructoid the first exclusive look at the latest map coming to Hawken. Called Wreckage, the new map is based around a crash-landed derelict cargo ship.

Wreckage ties into the backstory of the series, and it ultimately shows off a microcosm of the battles being fought within the Hawken universe. The cargo ship on the map is the center of attention with the factions of Hawken, as it contains enough parts to make hundreds of mechs, or alternatively repair thousands of them.

The above picture was illustrated by Adhesive CEO Khang Le. Below you can find some in-game shots showing off the level and the carnage you can expect.

by Jayson Napolitano

We mentioned a few days back that we had an interview with Nintendo composers Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo regarding their work on Super Mario 3D World in the works. Well, here it is!

The two take the time to share with us how cats influenced the game, their thoughts on the great cats vs. dogs debate, and some surprises that we'll hear when it comes to the game's soundtrack.

Talking about F2P & Phantom Army with Zombie Studios head
by Steven Hansen

Last night, we brought you the first look at Phantom Army, the upcoming (2014) free-to-play third-person shooter from Zombie Studios (Blacklight: Retribution, Daylight) and SmileGate, makers of the massively popular CrossFire.

I talked with Zombie studio head Jared Gerritzen about the game, how the North American opinion has refracted back into worldwide free-to-play design, growing global markets that outnumber the United States, and more.

Critical Hit all-star game cover band led by WoW composer photo
Critical Hit all-star game cover band led by WoW composer
by Dale North

World of Warcraft composer Jason Hayes and VGMarket founder Michael Gluck (remember Piano Squall?) head up new band Critical Hit. This all-star band performs and records their own arrangements of videogame music themes.

All-star? In addition to Hayes and Gluck, Critical Hit is packed with talented performers. Toto pianist (and co-writer of Africa, Rosanna, and other hits) David Frank Piach, is a member, as is YouTube violin star Taylor Davis. Bassist Carlitos del Puerto performed with Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock, among others. Guitarist Nita Strauss has recorded several soundtracks, including work on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. She was named #1 in Guitar World’s "10 Female Guitarists you should know."

Cellist Tina Guo was featured in Cirque Du Soleil’s Michael Jackson “The Immortal” World Tour. Percussionist Doug Belote worked with Eric Clapton and Willie Nelson, among others, with work spanning over 200 albums. Flutist Sara Andon has performed on several games and films, as has drummer Joel Taylor, and woodwind performer Pedro Eustache. Another guitarist, Chet Stevens, and a pianist, Salome Scheidegger, round out the group.

This barely grazes the massive list of musical accomplishments this band's members have under their belts. You can read more about each of the performers here, on the Critical Hit webpage.

I think have both musical and physical crushes on the entire band.

Report: Wii U 32GB with Wind Waker HD bundle coming photo
Report: Wii U 32GB with Wind Waker HD bundle coming
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Destructoid has learned of Nintendo's upcoming plans to release a new Wii U bundle and new 3DS XL bundles. The information was revealed to us by a source at Target, a major North American retailer, where they were able to show us a firsthand account of their store's inventory tracking system.

The Wii U bundle will contain the 32GB Deluxe version of the console, and come packed with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. This will retail for $349.99.

Additionally, our source revealed two new 3DS XL bundles for Pokemon X and Y. They'll come in two colors, red and blue, with the color choices presumably being a nod to the original two Pokemon games that were released in America. The inventory listing didn't specifically state which version of the games will be included with the different colored handhelds, but we can expect the bundles to retail for $199.99.

No release date was listed for either of the bundles, but we can assume they'll be out this October as Pokemon X/Y will be out on October 12 release, while Wind Waker HD has an October window.

We reached out to Nintendo for a statement regarding this, to which they replied with "Nintendo does not comment on rumors and speculation." Not an unexpected answer. We can probably expect an official reveal in the next month or so, most likely through a Nintendo Direct.

A la cartridge: Dragon's Crown pork monster photo
A la cartridge: Dragon's Crown pork monster
by Steven Hansen

Food is good. Videogames are good. Food inspired by videogames are doubleplusgood. It's simple science. Science and art. I would like to humbly present the first episode of Steven Hansen's À la cartridge, a straightforward cooking show where I teach you how to make tasty things and talk about the games that inspire them.

In my quest to become the Alton Brown of videogames, will I become videogames' Guy Fieri? Will I remember to get a knife sharpener so I don't swear into the camera when I cut myself? Will the sorceress in Dragon's Crown invest in proper bust support to nip future back problems in the bud?

Find out by watching the inaugural episode, in which I cook a gigantic pork shoulder and rosemary potatoes (full recipe below). And tell me what I can do to improve. What upcoming games might you want to see a dish for?

Now we can exclusively debut the first gameplay trailer showing off the game's world. Note that while a lot of what you see appears in third-person, the game is actually presented in first-person view.
