The EA Sports Season Ticket has ceased to exist

As was expected with the advent of the EA Access program, the EA Sports Season Ticket and Arena initiatives are phasing out. If you have a Season Ticket it will run until the end of March 2015, at which point it will expire -...

Wear the carcass of Chester Cheetah in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare

I was prepared to get mildly annoyed at this Cheetos partnership with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, despite the fact that it's not the first time the game has dabbled in brand-sponsored character variants. (There were ...

Play Garden Warfare, Kingdoms of Amalur for free on Origin for a limited time photo
Play Garden Warfare, Kingdoms of Amalur for free on Origin for a limited time
by Jordan Devore

Through Origin's Game Time program, it's currently possible to play Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for free -- for a limited time, of course. Simply download either game and, once you launch it, the clock will begin counting down.

For Garden Warfare, which I cannot recommend enough -- seriously, now's your chance! -- Origin users are getting unlimited access for 72 hours, while Kingdoms of Amalur is restricted to 48 hours of free play. It's unclear how long these offers will remain valid, so I wouldn't wait too long if you're interested. Something to play over the weekend, perhaps.

Garden Warfare's Suburbination update adds another mode and character photo
Garden Warfare's Suburbination update adds another mode and character
by Jordan Devore

This week's free new update for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds Suburbination mode, a capture-and-defend game type in the same vein as Battlefield's Conquest and Call of Duty's Domination. Gardens & Graveyards is still where it's at, but this is a decent distraction.

The DLC also includes the Plasma Peashooter, who is playable immediately without the need to spend in-game coins; the Crash Course map; more stuff for Garden Ops including the vampiric Baron Von Bats boss and the Treasure Yeti; and a bunch of "bling" customization items.

Garden Warfare has become my go-to "unwinding" game and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Finding an annoying hiding place as the zombie soldier and picking off plants is way too satisfying to stop. You're in for a treat next week, PlayStation gamers.

Battlefield Hardline's single-player campaign reminds me of Far Cry 3

Up until now, Visceral Games has concentrated on showing the multiplayer side of Battlefield Hardline. That's been fine, but unlike most other Battlefield titles, I'm actually somewhat interested in hearing about the single-...

BioWare states that one complete playthrough of Dragon Age: Inquisition is 150 hours

Today at EA's gamescom press conference, BioWare's Aaryn Flynn talked a bit about how long Dragon Age: Inquisition would take to complete. The answer? If you did everything in one playthrough, it would take roughly 150 hours. Sounds like a lot, right? Well let me break that statement down based on my experiences with the game at a recent preview event.

BioWare announces modern fantasy story-based 4 vs. 1 multiplayer RPG Shadow Realms photo
BioWare announces modern fantasy story-based 4 vs. 1 multiplayer RPG Shadow Realms
by Darren Nakamura

At the EA press conference today, BioWare announced its next project, Shadow Realms. Jeff Hickman, the Studio General Manager discussed its inspiration in old school pen and paper role-playing games, before elaborating on how that applies to the videogame.

Set in a "modern fantasy" world, the heroes form teams of four to do battle against the forces of the Shadow Lord, who controls a range of evil creatures. The result is an online role-playing game with asymmetric multiplayer.

Of course, BioWare throws in its own twist, where story remains a significant component of the gameplay. The studio plans to release content for Shadow Realms episodically, so the community can experience the progression of the story as it evolves together.

Shadow Realms is scheduled to release for PC "late next year," but it is currently playable at gamescom, and interested parties can sign up for the alpha at ShadowRealms.com.

Here's what EA thinks is worth a press conference

At the EA press conference earlier, Peter Moore stood on stage and showed off various modes in The Sims 4. None of that was important though. This is the most important piece of information to come from the presentation. Behold: buff, shirtless Peter Moore. You're welcome.

Battlefield 4 is free to play for a week on PC photo
Battlefield 4 is free to play for a week on PC
by Jordan Devore

EA is back with another Origin Game Time promotion following that one for Titanfall. Those of you on PC can claim a week of free access to Battlefield 4 -- just add the game to your Origin library before August 14. The clock doesn't start until you launch the title, at which point you'll then have one full week (168 hours) to play as much or as little as you'd like.

This offer includes full access to the single-player campaign (don't feel bad about skipping it) and multiplayer, and any progress you make will be retained should you choose to buy Battlefield 4 afterward. Pretty good way to get your fill without committing.

Tempted to log back in after a long absence. Maybe I'll stand a chance now.
