Dota 2 is adding a Stanley Parable announcer pack

Davey Wreden, the writer for The Stanley Parable, tweeted out that he is writing an announcer pack for Dota 2. We don't have any more details on it right now, but just the fact that it's coming is enough to get me excited. I love DLC like this. It's simple and fun, and it adds something interesting to the existing game. I would much rather buy a narration pack than a gun of +1 rampage.

Dota 2 6.79: Patch Analysis: Heroes

Ok, so I tried to cram all of this information into a single post, but it hit the post character limit. So with the General and Item changes out of the way, here they are, the Hero balance changes from the recent Dota 2 6.79 patch. Did you unlearn what you knew about gold, day/night, the jungle, and lane equilibrium? Good, now prepare to do the same for just about ALL THE HEROES.

Dota 2 6.79: Patch Analysis: General and Item Changes

So, ummm. The game of Dota 2 has changed in a BIG way. First of all, normally these giant patches hit the original DOTA first, then making their way over to Dota 2 about a week later. That didn't happen. This patch ...

Watch the final Dota 2 match of The International 3 photo
Watch the final Dota 2 match of The International 3
by Jordan Devore

The International 3 concluded last night after a tense fifth game in a best-of-five set between Na'Vi and Alliance. Were you among the hundreds of thousands of people who watched the Grand Championship unfold? This is it -- the final, ridiculous match that awarded one team $1.4 million in prize money thanks in part to the Dota 2 community.

If you couldn't tell, I'm purposefully dancing around who the victor was, though many of you have undoubtedly heard by now. To those lucky few who haven't been spoiled and are about to watch, you're much better at pulling off blackouts than I'll ever be. Even as someone who doesn't play Dota 2, this was a thrilling event. How could it not be with such energy in the room?

The International makes me want to learn, similar to how EVO rekindles my interest in fighting games each and every year. Not that I'd ever get to compete on that level, but the passion, the excitement, the sheer spectacle found in these events brings out my inquisitive nature. What if?

How to watch Valve's 'The International' Dota2 tournament photo
How to watch Valve's 'The International' Dota2 tournament
by Patrick Hancock

Though it may sound silly, it's not easy to understand all there is to Valve's "The International." It's even hard to understand just what the hell is happening on screen while watching a Dota 2 match. That's why I've put together this guide: to hopefully ease new players and spectators into the world of competitive Dota 2. Even if you have no interest whatsoever in the game, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement.

You thought EVO was full of hype? Get ready for The International.

Review: Dota 2 photo
Review: Dota 2
by Patrick Hancock

The original Defense of the Ancients, a custom map for Warcraft III, became a hit almost instantly. Chances are, if you were playing Warcraft around that time, you've played a round or two of DotA. Since then standalone games like League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth have risen up, following the basic idea that DotA popularized way back when.

Finally, after some legal issues and a very long beta phase, Dota 2 has been officially released. Less of a sequel and more of an enhanced edition, Dota 2 is still very much a work in progress as all of the original Heroes have yet to be ported over to Valve's Source engine edition of the game. Even so, one of the original creators, "Icefrog," is on board with Valve and has continually worked to improve the game in order to create one of the best in the genre -- one that has even become its own sport.

Best of all, it's free-to-play with no hoops to jump through.
