Yep, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is a lock for PS4

While the return of Blizzard All-Stars (now known as Heroes of the Storm) has me most anticipating BlizzCon 2013, there's another announcement today that can be considered good news. Blizzard has confirmed that the Reaper of ...

Diablo III's auction houses are shutting down next year photo
Diablo III's auction houses are shutting down next year
by Jordan Devore

The real-money and gold auction houses will be removed from Diablo III on March 18, 2014. Even though Blizzard has come out publicly to disparage the auction houses in the past and flat out skipped them for the console versions of the game, it's still something of a shock to the system to see them go away. Good riddance.

"When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades," writes Blizzard. "But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot."

The developer has been slowly but surely improving most of the faults with the core experience since it first released last year. This was one of the biggest remaining issues that needed to be addressed, especially with the Reaper of Souls expansion on the way. Specifics on how the auction houses will be phased out will be shared at a later date.

MGS V's New Mechanics, PS4's VR, & Xbox's Release Date

Hey gang! Here's today's very somber Destructoid Show. A serious one. With no jokes. (I'm just kidding, there are jokes.) The Xbox One finally has a release date, but don't worry, because the Xbox 360 still has a few more ye...

Impressions: Diablo III (PS3, Xbox 360) photo
Impressions: Diablo III (PS3, Xbox 360)
by Chris Carter

The thought of the Diablo franchise coming to consoles yet again was something I found hard to believe. I had a front-row seat to the launch of the original Diablo on the PlayStation, and to say it was a letdown is an understatement.

But after I had gotten in some quality time with Diablo III, I actually had faith that the pared-down mechanics could actually work outside of the PC platform -- the question is, would I actually play it all over again on a controller. In fact, when it came time to actually sit down and play the console game last week, I thought I had enough of Diablo III with a few hundred hours poured into the original PC release.

Before I knew it though, I had nearly beaten the game twice over on consoles in a single afternoon.

Hey hey! It's Friday. Woo.

So, today's Destructoid Show, in a nutshell: The Last Of Us is a good game, Kiefer Sutherland has replaced (?) David Hayter as Snake in Metal Gear Solid V, Respawn Entertainment's top secret next game is Titanfall, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z looks ridiculous, Diablo III on consoles has a launch date, and the Microsoft answers a few more questions about the Xbox One.

Diablo III confirmed for Xbox 360, ships September 3rd photo
Diablo III confirmed for Xbox 360, ships September 3rd
by Chris Carter

It appears as if the Xbox 360 will be joining the Diablo III loot-fest console party, as the game is now set for a September 3rd release date for both the 360 and PS3, priced at $59.99. Local and online play are re-confirmed for both versions. The PS4 version is still in the works for a future release, presumably near or at the console's launch. I guess Sony had "timed announcement exclusivity?"

Either way, this is a great day for 360 and PS3 fans alike, as the game will allow offline play and will eliminate the Auction House entirely. With the new Director essentially admitting they made a ton of mistakes, I have high hopes for Diablo III's future. Maybe, just maybe they'll slowly eliminate the online requirement for the PC version due to the overwhelming success of the console version, and by the time the first expansion rolls around, we'll have a superior version of the game.
