Top ten best THQ games: Remembering a giant photo
Top ten best THQ games: Remembering a giant
by Allistair Pinsof

When assessing a publisher's impact on the industry, we tend to focus on the highs rather than consistency. THQ was anything but consistent, putting out Nintendo DS shovelware, rushed licensed games, and taking part in one of the absolute worst games of all time with Mohawk & Headphone Jack. And yet, THQ occupies a warm place in our hearts. Those three letters represent some of the best times we had with games of the past decade, bringing unknown studios like Volition and Relic into the limelight.

Once we scraped off all the Bratz games and pet sims, we had a hard time determining THQ's top ten best.

Darksiders IS Zelda, and here's the proof

That the Darksiders games take more than a few cues from The Legend of Zelda -- and may possibly surpass it -- is a secret to nobody. What we were unaware of was that developer Vigil Games always had intentions of supplanting...

Vigil Games' lead combat designer says his goodbyes photo
Vigil Games' lead combat designer says his goodbyes
by Tony Ponce

THQ has cleared its plate and sold off all its assets... well... not all of them. For some reason, not one company placed a bid for Darksiders developer Vigil Games, dooming the young studio.

Vigil's lead combat designer Ben Cureton decided to pen his own farewell letter (posted below) and share it on gaming forum NeoGAF. But whereas the THQ company letter ends on a hopeful note, Ben's is far more heart-wrenching, coming as it is from one of the talents getting tossed on the street.

He knows his stuff, so there's no doubt Ben and crew will go on to bigger and better things. For now, let him express himself.

(Thank you for the notice, Squishy3)

$25 gets you the THQ Collection on Steam

After the recent Humble THQ Bundle, I don't know how useful this deal will be, but the sheer absurdity of it all warrants a special mention. As part of the 2012 holiday Steam sale, there's a $24.99 collection which inclu...

This Darksiders II 'Death & Despair' statue is turbo-boss

It seems the Darksiders series is fated to not get the recognition it deserves, but at least THQ still believes in it enough to pimp out some cool merchandise -- like this newly revealed "Death & Despair" statue from SOTA...

Humble THQ Bundle nets over $3.3 million (and counting) photo
Humble THQ Bundle nets over $3.3 million (and counting)
by Jim Sterling

Despite proving controversial, THQ's "Humble Bundle" has raked in $3.3 million since it launched last Thursday, as over 580,000 customers take the chance to snap up games for as little as $1.00. According to GI.biz, share prices have risen to $1.60 from $1.07 -- up by 37.96%.

The "pay what you want" bundle includes Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction: Armageddon and Company of Heroes, and the average buyer is opting to spend $5.64. Paying above the average entitles you to a free copy of Saints Row: The Third

Although proving successful, the deal has nonetheless touched a nerve with some folk, who expect all humble bundles to be indie, cross-platform, and DRM free. THQ's games don't fit those expectations, being AAA titles that require both Steam and Windows. Still, it's not calling itself the Humble Indie Bundle, and it's not promising anything it isn't delivering, so I don't quite see the problem.

Given THQ's troubles, whatever the deal lacks in Indie, it certainly makes up for in Humble.
