Now this is what you do with a Skylanders Portal

I'm not into Skylanders, but even I can't help but want this fantastic snow globe created from one the game's portal devices. Using a smaller 3DS portal and a snow globe creation kit, the holiday themed Skylanders ball of fes...

This contraption automatically finds shiny Pokemon

What would you do for a shiny Pokemon? Y'know, other than the default answer of "spend hours upon hours encountering wild Pokemon for the slim chance that one will have alternate coloring." Granted, the process has gotten ea...

Volpin Props makes an amazing Halo 4 Needler replica

It's funny how the Needler is sort of iconic with respect to the Halo series. Back in the days of the original Halo, it was almost exclusively used as a way to humiliate an opponent, since it was typically so easy to avoid b...

Play Game & Watch and other LCD games in your browser

Hey, 80s babies! Have fond memories of portable gaming in the days before Game Boy? Did your parents ever buy you those Tiger electronic handhelds for $10 a pop to shut you up on those long drives? Or were you born just a lit...

Check out this friggin' sweet stop-motion Link battle

Taiwanese stop-motion animator Counter656 is no stranger around these parts -- we've of course shared some of his work in the past. But maybe you haven't caught his vids before. If not, you are in for a treat! Using the supe...

The legendary Atari E.T. landfill is getting excavated

E.T. for the Atari 2600 has a crazy story behind it, and it's something any videogame fan should learn about. Long story short, Atari crushed all the copies of E.T. they couldn't sell and buried it under concrete in a landfil...

There's a Pong tournament on a Philly skyscraper tonight

Gamers are capable of doing some awesomely odd stuff for the sole purpose of saying they did it. A Drexel University professor is taking that concept and raising the bar. He's raising it 437 feet, to be exact. On April 19 an...

GDC: Valve, virtual reality, and the Oculus Rift

Back in the day, everyone thought virtual reality was going to be the future of games. We made movies, TV shows, and even very bad early attempts to make head-mounted displays. All of those devices failed, and over time, VR d...

What if Hyrule's banks upgraded to paper currency?

Why the denizens of Hyrule still exchange Rupees is beyond me. Have you seen the size of those things? A single shard occupies an entire treasure chest! How could anybody fit more than one in their pocket? It's high time that...

Real-life Mario Kart with REAL WORKING ITEMS OH SNAP

Yeah, we've all seen so-called "real-life Mario Kart" before, but always as a parody rather than a legitimate adaptation of the game mechanics in a physical setting. But wait around long enough and the magic of SCIENCE will ...

Have you used any of these weird-ass controllers?

When it comes to controllers, I try to steer clear of third-party options, as I've never once had a better experience with a knock-off versus the real thing. On the other hand, I gladly welcome any and all limited edition pad...

Nintendo Force magazine is the new kid on the block photo
Nintendo Force magazine is the new kid on the block
by Tony Ponce

So Nintendo Power is over and done with. Tears and all that. Pour one out for our homies.

The throne has been abdicated. Time for a new king to rise to power.

You've likely heard about a little something called Nintendo Force magazine. Lucas Thomas, Nintendo editor over on IGN, decided that there always needs to be a source of non-stop Nintendo news in this world, so he decided to fire off a few emails and assemble a team, Avengers style.

Nintendo Force will be both a print and online periodical, and the founding team features 16 of the most notable Nintendo heads in the industry. The squad includes got Kevin "RMC" Cassidy from GoNintendo, Matthew Taranto from Brawl in the Family, my buddy David Oxford from 1UP and The Mega Man Network, Daan Koopman from Nintendo World Report, and the loveable, huggable Jonathan Holmes, who has been a sneaky little sneak and not told anyone of his secret plans!

I wish the magazine the best and hope it can carry the torch that Nintendo Power hoisted for nearly 25 years. Follow all the updates, including the yet-to-be-announced first issue launch, either on the Nintendo Force website or the Facebook page.
