'We can make it if we try!'
Bungie has revealed what spoils you can score if you successfully convince a pal to play Destiny.
There are already 25 million registered players in Destiny, but that's not enough for Bungie. The publisher wants you to introduce a friend via the Refer-a-Friend website (your pal must be on the same platform as you to qualify).
When Destiny made the jump to "Year 2" with The Taken King, a number of Exotics didn't make it along for the ride. A huge one is the Gjallarhorn, a notoriously unbalanced rocket launcher that nearly every raid group...
On the next episode of "as the nerf turns," it looks like Bungie is making pulse rifles and shotguns less effective in its big December update for Destiny. This follows an update in the 2.0 edition that actually made pulse ri...
These error codenames are rad
Some Xbox One Destiny players have been encountering "Vulture" errors since the 2.02 update recently rolled out.
You should only receive that error if you try to play co-op or PvP without a Xbox Live Gold (or PlayStation Plus, as the code is not unique to Xbox) subscription, but it seems players are triggering the problem even if their sub is active.
And a few other bits
In addition to the refer-a-friend program, a few other updates are coming next week for Destiny. For starters Lord Shaxx will sell the three legendary swords, just in case you did something with them. Also, players will be ab...
'We're planning something new'
As a thank you for recruiting new Guardians this holiday season, Bungie will be rewarding players with a new Refer-a-Friend scheme for Destiny.
"After this update is deployed, some of the more tech savvy among you will b...
So this is a weird one.
Over at the Destiny subreddit, they've uncovered something surprising, straight from Bungie. According to the official help section of the game's site, failing to go to orbit after an activity (re...
Well, to some it's a problem
Destiny's economy is in constant flux, and Bungie never seems to know what to do about it. This patch everyone seemed to be fine with the changes in The Taken King, but after a few weeks, some issues started creeping up.
Fallout 3's shooting system was 'meh'
Bethesda looked to Bungie's sci-fi shooter Destiny when it was designing Fallout 4's gunplay.
In an interview with Game Informer (via GameSpot), the development team looked to Destiny not just because of its gameplay reputati...
We average three hours a day, apparently
The Taken King has brought an extra five million players to Destiny, boosting the number of registered players from 20 million to 25 million.
Activision confirmed the figures yesterday during its earnings report.
Also, a Golgoroth map
To this day I run into people who have issues with the King's Fall jumping puzzle in Destiny's newest raid. It's never a problem having to wait (or if they go to orbit), as you only need a certain amount of players to finish ...
Would not hold up in court, trust me
343 Industries makes Halo now and so 343 Industries needs a way to explain Halo's Cortana with respect to its own design, intent, and ambitions. Accordingly, Halo franchise director Frank O’Connor offered GamesRadar a n...
I don't even
While Crota's End never quite duplicated the challenge of Destiny's very first raid, The Vault of Glass, those of us familiar enough with the second raid know all too well that it's the end that's the tricky bit.
But then this guy comes along and solos it not just on the hardest difficulty, but also using a Rock Band drum-kit and wtf I don't even. Marvel at this:
Just like the new Exotic weapon quests
While Destiny is still missing a lot of features, and the loot system is never quite right, Bungie has a ton of variables to account for since it's so massive. Most notably, a millions-strong community that will datamine...
The highest item costs roughly $10
Bungie has pushed a new update to Destiny in the dead of morning that adds more microtransactions to the game. In addition to "Treasures of the Lost" chests for 200 Silver each, you can pick up the Legendary emotes "Zomb...
It was a solid base
When designing the King's Fall raid in Destiny, the developers noted that they created Hard Mode first, then went to Normal.
It makes sense, then, that the two would basically be the same. I just have mixed feelings about the loot system.
Last week, Destiny players everywhere were frustrated that the Iron Banner PVP event, a game mode they put hours of work into, yielded really poor loot despite Bungie's claims that it would be worth playing. Well, according t...
Not launching with Hard Mode
As we all know Destiny's latest raid is getting its Hard Mode variant this weekend, but the other major endgame event, the PVP-centric Trials of Osiris, is taking a backseat for the second weekend in a row. Unfortunately...
Why Destiny's story sucks
Difficult dev tools, Frankenstein story
Remember when we learned comedian and writer David Cross and Brian Posehn worked on Bungie's Destiny, and then the company "did not use a single, solitary thing [they] wrote." That's not the half of it.
A lengthy Kotaku repor...
Haha, the process involves Atheon
Destiny players recently found a secret in the Not Forged in Light Daily quest, but nothing could be done about it -- until today that is, when the daily has arrived yet again. If you finished it before and picked up the...
Par for the course
The Iron Banner (a week-long PVP event) is set to close later today in Destiny, and like its first appearance in Year One, it was a complete waste of time. For starters, the rewards weren't all that great, and some of the pro...
Leftovers from an old mechanic
Recently, dataminers uncovered items that seemed to indicate that paid level, subclass, and engram (loot) boosts were coming to Destiny now that the microtransaction floodgates have been opened. Bungie denied it recently on T...
'Cos we need harder raids, right?
Bungie has confirmed that King's Fall - Destiny: The Taken King's new raid -- will get its hard mode next week.
In the most recent Bungie update, the developer confirmed that the mode will drop at 10am PT on Friday, October 23, 2015.
Now you can get your Touch of Malice
Normally a small bug fix wouldn't warrant an update, but I've been talking to a bunch of people who have been affected by a recent glitch in Destiny, myself included. In essence, one of the best weapons in the game (the Touch...
Give it a go, it's fun
As previously mentioned, I think the King's Fall raid in Destiny is the best offering yet. It's clean, doesn't have very many bugs, and has a lot of variety within its walls. At this point I'm sitting on 15 clears, some for gear, some for fun, and others for quests and fragments (a collectible questline).
Whatever your reason is, here are some tips to help you through.
That's not a great thing to hear
Have you been playing Destiny's Nightfall Strikes recently and feeling like the rewards earned were not worth the time put in to earn them? Well, you're not alone. According to Destiny creative director Luke Smith, a lot of y...
Level your blues
Destiny has had a few major shakeups in terms of its mechanics recently, one of which is the way Motes of Light work. Now, they can be consumed to level up your gear (some players still don't know this). This individual ...
Don't panic, says Bungie
Hope you've got lots of space left on your console, Guardian - the latest Destiny update is inexplicably forcing some players to re-download 18GB of data.
"We are actively investigating why some players on the PlayStati...
Silver = real money
Yes, Activision has gone and done it.
In addition to charging $60 for Destiny (more if you bought either Special Edition), $30 for the Season Pass, and $40 (again, or more) for The Taken King, you're looking at $130 mini...
Also, Trials of Osiris for the weekend
I skipped over the Iron Banner appearances (week-long PVP events) in Destiny. By the time they hit, I always had the top raid gear anyway, and the concept of playing the same modes with a slightly different stat modifier wasn...
