Season 2 of The Walking Dead hits Vita next week

Informal poll, who plays the series on Vita? It seems like such a late addition platform that, coupled with its small-ish install base, a lot of people who wanted to play The Walking Dead have by the time the Vita versions ke...

PSA: Sonic CD is free for Android for 7 more hours
by Steven Hansen

Apparently-controller-compatible Sonic CD is Amazon's free Android app of the day for about seven more hours. This staggering deal will literally save you dollars compared to the usual $3 price tag.

Use them well. I'm going to buy a lottery ticket and burn the other two as sacrifice. For luck.

These are the games Amazon is developing

The Amazon Fire TV went on sale today and for a lot of us, it's a case of too little, too late. We already own one if not multiple devices that can stream all of the weird things we enjoy watching in the privacy of our homes...

Amazon announces its $99 set-top box Fire TV photo
Amazon announces its $99 set-top box Fire TV
by Jordan Devore

Amazon has finally announced its long-rumored media device and it's available for purchase as of today. The $99 Amazon Fire TV supports expected streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Prime Instant Video, and Pandora, but games also have a presence on the box which sports an Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of memory, and a quad-core processor.

There a over a hundred games supported including Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Asphalt 8, and Amazon Game Studios' exclusive third-person shooter Sev Zero, with "thousands more coming soon." According to Amazon, many of these games are free and "the average price of paid games is just $1.85." Of course, that less-than-ideal gamepad is being sold separately for $39.99.

There are a few interesting gimmicks, but the one that sounds most intriguing to me is ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction), a feature which predicts movies or television episodes you'll want to watch and prepares them for playback ahead of time to avoid buffering. I'm not really in the market for the Fire TV as a Roku owner -- and Amazon has a long way to go before it can pull me in with its gaming initiative -- but this looks like a nice little box. Maybe someday.

Amazon acquires Double Helix Games photo
Amazon acquires Double Helix Games
by Alessandro Fillari

It's been known that Amazon has had its eye on diversifying into the gaming space. Not just from a sales standpoint, but for publishing and producing its own unique titles. And now, the mega online retailer has made its first major move to that goal by purchasing independent developer Double Helix Games.

In a statement just after the news broke, Amazon provided some insight into the deal: "Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers."

Founded in 2007, Double Helix Games has made some notable titles from a variety of different franchises -- such as Silent Hill: Homecoming, Front Mission Evolved, and most recently its work on the well-received Killer Instinct reboot.

With Strider still on the way, its unclear what the future holds for Double Helix. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more information as it develops.

Deal North: Crazy good download deals and more photo
Deal North: Crazy good download deals and more
by Dale North

Imagine me as Santa. Imagine me flying high above your home in a sleigh filled with crazy good deals on downloadable games, guided by fuzzy little flying corgis with reindeer antlers. It's snowing. The ground is glimmering.

I might cry.

You might cry too if you're out of money from Christmas shopping after seeing these deals! What's great is that you can take a $20 bill and do some major damage with these deals. Some are good for only a couple of days, while others are good through Christmas. Definitely move fast if you're interested in any of what we have listed here.

Happy shopping!
