You should go check out Skrillex Quest

I'm pretty sure I've lamented in the past that I don't know what the kids are into with the music anymore. So, understand that I have no idea who this "Skrillex" person is, but I'm getting the idea that he's kind of becoming ...

Robot Chicken made a PlayStation All-Stars commercial

I enjoyed watching Robot Chicken on Adult Swim back in college, but it never felt like it had true staying power. Why new episodes are still being made, I have no clue. Then again, this is the same network that is still chur...

The PS Vita is like a headless lady with four breasts?

According to a promotional ad in France, the PlayStation Vita is comparable to a woman with no head and four breasts, two of which jut agonizingly from her back like a pair of malevolent tumors.  What are we to glean fro...

Obama campaign ads to hit Madden 13 and other EA titles

As much fun as the never ending political bickering has been lately, I'm kind of ready for it to be over for a while. Something tells me though, that it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. At least we ...

Penny Arcade using Kickstarter to fund ad-free site

One expects a little cynicism from a satirical web comic, but Penny Arcade's new Kickstarter project takes things to a new extreme. The company is asking for $250,000 to remove one advertisement from its site. Not only that ....

E3: A peek at the Videogame History Museum booth

While the E3 show floor is primarily concerned with showing the world what's next for the videogame industry, The Videogame History Museum brought a little bit of its past to the event this week. Tucked in the corner of the s...

Do you want a sneak peek of the E3 Convention Center? photo
Do you want a sneak peek of the E3 Convention Center?
by Chad Concelmo

Of course you do!

I just got back from an early visit to the L.A. Convention Center, home to next week's massive industry event: E3. You may have heard about it.

The final preparations are almost complete, with companies putting the finishing touches on their gigantic, out of control booths. While I was there, workers were everywhere -- painting, gluing, hammering, and doing all types of other manly things.

And while access to the actual show floor is strictly prohibited -- seriously, security is no joke! -- I was able to take a bunch of pictures of the posters, banners, and general decor that will be plastered around the L.A. Convention Center. Check out everything in the gallery! There is some pretty cool stuff to get excited about!

Next week is going to be pretty awesome! Make sure you stick with Destructoid for all your E3 needs!

E3: Hitman: Absolution snags the coveted South Hall steps

The South Hall is the larger of the two main halls at the L.A. Convention Center (the other being the West Hall). While the "Big Three" companies (Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony) are in the West Hall, they take up almost all t...

Sony patents plan to interrupt games with commercials

You can't count on a publisher to be original or inventive when it comes to our entertainment, but they always seem brilliantly innovative when it comes to selling us more crap. Sony is today's bright little star, having pate...

Review: World Gone Sour photo
Review: World Gone Sour
by Jim Sterling

The idea of buying an interactive commercial is like battery acid in the minds of most adult gamers, but we blissfully forget that we once paid full price for entire videogames that existed purely to push another product.

As children, we happily played games like Yo! Noid and Cool Spot, not to mention the shameless Biker Mice From Mars title that consistently reminded us of the delicious taste of Snickers. Back then, paying top dollar for a game that tricked children into getting diabetes was an acceptable practice, mostly because the games weren't all that terrible. Not great, but not terrible.

World Gone Sour evokes the spirit of the nineties with its "advergaming" properties. It promotes sugary food, you have to pay for it, and it's not terrible.

Here's some A for your SoulCalibur T

Voldo's lower horn may not have been a legit SoulCalibur V print ad, but this one is. Surprise, surprise. It's the perfect complement to the original boobalicious ad. These things always happen in pairs. I'm glad Namco Bandai...

Namco Bandai pulls penis-flavored SoulCalibur V ad

Gamers learn to block intrusive ads on Xbox 360 dashboard photo
Gamers learn to block intrusive ads on Xbox 360 dashboard
by Jim Sterling

One of the biggest complaints about the Xbox 360 dashboard update was the fact that advertisements now took up a ridiculous amount of screen space. For some gamers, it's gone too far, and a number of ad-blocking methods have been publicized via Reddit for those who don't like to be sold extra crap on top of a service they paid for.

One of the simplest methods is to block the ad server (rad.msn.com) using your router, if the router settings support it. A more complex method uses the free OpenDNS service, and the instructions for use can be found at the bottom of this post.

I've not got a problem with advertising (it's how Destructoid can provide so much free content, after all) but when people have bought an electronic device outright and then pay an extra $60 a year to access its online service, I think it's a bit rich to litter the customer's screen with ads. Excuse me if I don't cry a river for Microsoft in this situation.
