Share your 3DS friend code for a Smashing good time

Holy smokes! Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS is finally here! If you're as excited as I am, then, well, you're probably pretty damn excited! Also, if you're anything like me, you'll be looking for other people to play Smash onl...

Review: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS photo
Review: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
by Chris Carter

Super Smash Bros. and I go back a long way. When the first game was released in 1999, I didn't drive. Heck, I didn't even have a Nintendo 64 at that time. But I had a Smash Bros. addiction, and would spend hours upon hours at friends' houses, often staging sleepovers just so we could play more. It was probably the first game I ever put over a thousand hours into.

My Melee addiction was even worse. With wheels, I could drive to local tournaments and hone my craft. I had "training buddies" that I'd sit for hours and play with, trading new strategies along the way. I had groups who played all items on random levels, I had friends who played Final Destination no items only, and I had acquaintances who played a mix of both. However you shake it, Melee may be my most-played game of all time.

But when Brawl came out, a lot of the groups I had been playing with for all these years kind of fell off the map. They either continued to play Melee regardless, or just quit Smash entirely. It was an odd time seeing a franchise that I had enjoyed so much fall off like that in my personal circles, and from what I've seen over the past few years, I wasn't alone. It wasn't a bad game -- it just didn't set off that spark in me that 64 and Melee did before it.

Enter Smash 3DS. Not only has it rekindled my love for the series, but I have a feeling that once the Wii U version hits, living rooms will be smashing for hours all over again.

This Star Fox: Assault stage in Smash Bros. Wii U is beautiful

While it was fun providing updates for the 3DS version of Smash Bros. from Sakurai's Miiverse account, I'm really excited for all of the new info that's going to come out of the Wii U edition of the game. The newest reve...

Mega Rayquaza looks far cooler than normal Rayquaza

It was all but guaranteed that Rayquaza would be among those Pokémon in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to have a Mega Evolution -- or perhaps a Primal Reversion, like Groudon and Kyogre -- and as such it's nice to get ...

The Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call Legacy of Music contest results are in! Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu picked the winners himself (I'm still kind of freaked out that he heard my contest demonstration ...

Nintendo Download: Super Smash Bros. 3DS

While the 3DS is definitely the highlight this week, the Wii U is getting a few games today. The most notable game is Castlevania Dracula X on the Virtual Console, in addition to 99Seconds, Red Riding Hood. On the 3DS we...

Isabelle is one of the most adorable faces to come out of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, that's for sure. Have you ever wanted to yank her cute little face off and carry it around with you as a purse? Now you can, thanks to the O...

The 3DS couldn't handle transforming Super Smash Bros. characters

In Super Smash Bros., characters like Zelda and Sheik are on their own, no longer represented as a single fighter that can change form mid-battle. Speaking about the change in Famitsu, game director Masahiro Sakurai said "It'...

Here's how team colors will work for Super Smash Bros. Wii U

While the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. is just around the corner, I know quite a bit of people who will be waiting on the Wii U edition. The good news is although the game is still a ways off (rumors point to mid Nov...

Super Smash Bros. 3DS won't support the Circle Pad Pro because of a hardware issue

As everyone knows, the GameCube controller allowed for a certain amount of versalitlty when it came to Smash Bros. games. With the C-stick option, players could use it for quick smash attacks, which was a great thing to ...

One modder shows how to hook a GameCube controller up to your 3DS for $12

One of the only problems I had with Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS was using the Circle Pad for a prolonged use of time. I actually got used to using the portable's controls over time, but the pad itself wears on my thumb...

Giant characters in Super Smash Bros. are a glitch, sometimes

Giant characters are nothing new for the Super Smash Bros. series but not like this. Not like this. It seems that in Smash Bros. for 3DS, Yoshi's Egg Lay move has the ability to make large CPU characters even larger in Multi...

Nintendo is serious with 3DS themes, will have nearly 50 in Japan at launch

When I first heard of the upcoming 3DS theme concept, I wasn't super hopeful. I thought that Nintendo would probably put up a few major ones (Zelda and Mario), and completely forget about it over the course of a few weeks. Bu...

Sears' 3DS ad listing is absolutely ridiculous

I've seen some absurd ad spots but this one may take the cake. Sears has posted a 3DS advertisement that not only sounds like it belongs in the 1920s (step right up!), but also contains some purely false information. It start...

Everyone is fabulous in this Japanese New 3DS commercial

Nintendo has a New 3DS TV spot making the rounds, and it shows off some strange new outfits for some iconic Nintendo characters. I'm talking top hat Link, King Pikachu, and a Bowser that's too swanky for his own good. In all...
