79% of portable gaming done at home, no word on how much is done on the toilet photo

Research done by the NPD has revealed that 79 percent of iPhone, PSP, and DS owners use the handhelds at home more so than out of the house. The research has also shown that people are playing on handhelds more now than they were three months ago.

The NPD broke down some stats to Edge showing which features of the portable devices are being used most. Most notably is the increase of iPhone owners playing games in the last three months, which makes sense as some decent games have come out on the iPhone lately.

The only time I ever take my DS out of the house is when I’m going to the airport. Otherwise, I’m much more comfortable playing my DS in bed. How about you, Dtoiders? Do you use your handhelds more often at home or on the go?

That pic accompanying your piece is hilarious. Just what the HELL is she playing on the PSP that's that interesting. I need to know 'cause I haven't played my PSP aside from remote play.

At home, I mostly use my PSP when I can't play on the home console for some reason. Also, I use it a lot in the bathroom :)

I mostly play my DS if I'm in bed, too. Or if I'm watching television, then during commercials.

@yojimbo

They're watching one of those Japanese porns they have available on UMD obviously.

I use my DS on the toilet almost exclusively. I do take it with me when I travel as it's a good time killer, but when I get to my destination, it rarely gets pulled out. Mostly for the airport and buses/trains.

You think it's hilarious?!?!?!

The guy in the pic looks like he's gonna rape the PSP, then the woman.

But,yeah, I'm wondering what on earth she's playing, the only thing I know worth spending time on the psp is homebrew

I work from home, so 95% of my time is at home.

I'd be more likely to read while in transit though.
books don't run out of battery power.

Since mass transit is my way of conveyance, I get a lot of outdoor play out of my portables. Waiting and riding trains doesn't seem as long.

I've been considering a DS these past few weeks. I don't think I'd use it too often on the go. Though I need some RPG love and this console generation isn't doing it for me. If I didn't have a 1080p TV I'd probably sell my console.

I want a DS for Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, The World Ends With You, Legend of Kage 2, Contra 4, Drawn to Life, Lock's Quest, Metal Slug 7, the DS Castlevania series, the DS Kirby series....

Okay I need to just stop thinking about it or I'm going to end up broke.

Hamza, I play in bed too!! Some mild RPG grinding always calms me down at the end of the day and helps me feel like I've been productive. ^_^

My PSP sits next to the toilet.

And my DS lays next to me in bed. The glow helps me sleep at night.

I don't think I have ever played either of them outside. I do not want them stolen.

I play my DS at home almost more than I play my consoles. I love the fact that I can play it wherever I want and that I'm not tethered to a specific TV. I play it while cooking, lying down, sitting and watching tv, and just about everywhere.

I'm happy portables are doing well, even the PSP. I bring my DS to work every day. My hour session of gaming makes the day bearable. To me, its where all the real Nintendo games are these days.

I play at home, at the doctors office, I play in line at the post office, I play at home, I play at the movies during the trashy previews I've seen 80 times, I play while watching football and MMA. Dead time = fun time.

This is totally unacceptable. The point of having a handheld console is to play on the GO. As in moving and not being stationary! If you play at home, you might as well play your console or pc games! Of course I don't advocate gaming and driving at the same time.

Pff. I have a 2 hour commute each way to college. That's important music/Mother 3 time for me, at the moment.

Also when I'm crapping, although my legs sometimes go nu-.. Too much information.

Before 2007 - 100% of my DS play time spent on planes.
After 2007 - 100% of my DS play time spent on toilet.

If I know I'll have to be sitting around waiting for someone or such and it's in a covenient place, I'll bring my DS (on super rare occasions my PSP, like when I got Breath of Fire III for it), otherwise just lying in bed playing or playing on the can is much more relaxing.

I'm probably split about 50/50. When I'm at home, I'm much more likely to play my 360, but when I'm out, I am certainly going to have my DS with me.

Bathtub and bed for me. It's nice to get about a half hour's worth of an old-school RPG in before bed. It helps me sleep actually. I know it's time to turn it off and fall asleep when I start to doze off during combat.
