7-11 loses at Halo 3, wins at being wank photo

Very much like Florian "Has won a powerful enemy" Eckhardt, it seems that 7-11 is both made of fail and due an almighty smack upside the head. Although the store chain is far from known for its sale of videogames, the biggest launch of the year in Halo 3 was just too much for the purveyor of iced slushy treats to ignore, hency why 7-11 held a midnight launch of its own ... for copies of a game that many of its stores did not have.

Oh dear.

7-11's distributor made the mistake of sending out the games via second day delivery instead of overnight express, meaning that a good deal of stores simply didn't have anything to sell at midnight. Of course, a company rep would like to remind us that a vast majority of participating stores got their copies, but this is still proof that certain establishments need to stick to quasi-liquid refreshments, I think. That makes the news that 7-11 is planning to sell more games in 2008 even funnier.

Not the best start for the company's new plans, to screw up the biggest game launch we'll have for a good long while, but everybody has to start somewhere, I suppose.

Hahaha. Good thing I went to Wal-Mart instead of my first plan, which was going to 711.

"Well, our midnight launch party for Halo was a big success. There was that small mishap of forgetting to stock the game, but we'll do better for the next launch party, we promise!"

This is hilarious.

This is the game launch equivalent of forgetting to go to your own birthday party.

This is like starting a sports team, getting the players and realizing you don't know what sport to play.

What would of made this funnier is if each store only had 7 or 11 copys.

I kinda sorta feel bad for those who used 7-11 as plan A, but I really don't...I mean, who decides "I'm going to get my copy of the biggest game ever from a vendor who has never sold games before!" and not think that they would have slightly enhanced odds of getting screwed? Sorry, but you failed your saving throw vs. Dumb Idea. Just because Best Buy has a fridge box with sodas in it near the register, doesn't mean that 7-11 is gonna get the game sales down pat. At least you can take a penny from that tray if you misfigured the tax, I suppose...

i walked to the 7-11 by my apartment after heroes to buy beer, and bought a copy of halo 3 while i was there.

i still feel kind of weird having spent 70 bucks at a 7-11.

"more games in '08." ?

(laughing)

sorry 7-11, there won't be a 'next time' for you because you screwed a majority of the ONLY kind of people who would even think to stop by a 7-11 to purchase a videogame.

This happened to me verbatim. The problem was that the dude running the store was (surprise!) not a native to the US. In fact, I think he had stepped off the boat mere minutes before being given the night shift.

I asked about Halo, and he looked at me like a dog that had been shown a card trick. I can understand if they don't have any copies (another FAIL for them), but if their employees don't even know about this big huge thing that's happened, then double fail on them.

That's pretty funny. I can't believe that people would actually bother lining up at a 7-11, though. Everyone I know who wanted one either preordered with EB Games/Gamestop or lined up at Best Buy.
