5th Cell working on an original Xbox LIVE Arcade game photo

While Scribblenauts may have left somewhat of a sour taste in my mouth, it was fun while it lasted, and you have to give credit where credit is due. Developer 5th Cell set out to create an ambitious, uniquely creative product, and although I feel it didn't meet many of our high expectations, that's more than can be said of many studios.

We had previously heard from 5th Cell's Jeremiah Slaczka about how the team was going to temporarily give development on the DS a break to see what kind of console game they could come up with. Further clarification was given to Gamasutra -- he says the studio is working on an original XBLA title.

Noting how the game is "far away" and not nearly in announcement-ready condition, Slaczka says "it's going to be pretty big." It makes perfect sense the more I think about it. Jumping from DS to consoles would have been a huge step; making the game downloadable seems like the ideal middle ground.

Awesome! Here's hoping I will play it for more than four hours before getting bored and putting it aside except for brief twenty minute gameplay bursts every couple of weeks.

Whatever it is, at least I won't have to control it with a stylus. That was the worst thing about Scribblenauts, by far.

Agreed with HEL105. 5th Cell seems to have good ideas but bad execution, and I think having the simplified control scheme of a 360 controller will help a lot. I'm curious to see what they can do!

I wouldn't mind a port of scribblenauts. A new game sounds great though. Don't fuck up the controls 5th Cell.

Yeah a XBLA port of Scribblenauts would be great. Would love to enter words/phrases using only the controller pad.

@electrium
yeah but I've heard nothing but great things about Lock's Quest.

I agree though that the controls will cause them to focus on what they can and can't do.

OMFG YES!

This makes me so excited. XBLA is looking to be very awesome net year, and now this just further strengthens an already great looking line-up. Looking forward to more news from this one.
