I played Square's first Front Mission title way back in the day on the Super Nintendo. I enjoyed the strategy RPG, and I was pissed off that they didn't localize it for the US after playing it. Looking back over the years, the series got the shaft. In 2005, the fifth game in the series was released on the PS2. I never got around to playing it, but I heard that the game was epic in scope. I guess that was true, as the people at the Front Mission Series Translation Project took years to put their translation together.
They put in thousands of hours on the over 2,000 pages of dialogue over a couple of years to make this. An interview clearly details all of the work they put into this, including historical research. Hats off to these guys.
Now the translation is done and available. I've already said this once this morning, but you really have to respect the work these fans put into projects like this one. Check out the game's opening movie (above), subtitled by the group.

Front Mission 3 is my favorite in the series and I think that next Front Mission (the Armored Core-clone) will suck. Also, the New Year celebration is already happening in my place and yet I'm making a comment here. Goodbye 2009!
Hey Dale,
It's a slow day so I'll bring this up off-topic and leave you alone for good: There's a new Square Enix game that just went up in the App Store (didn't even know one was in the works). Any chance it'll get reviewed by DToid?
Front Mission 5 is absolutely fantastic. Far far better than Front Mission 3, which is actually seen as the black sheep of the series by most of its longtime fans. It is most definitely the best game in the entire series. I would still recommend finding and playing everything else first though (aside from Front Mission 2 since it's not in english....yet) since FM5's story takes place throughout the entire series.
Yeah, this has been out for quite a bit now -- They've just been refining it for the past few months. My friend who's had a Japanese copy of the game forever has already finished it with this patch, and he said it was absolutely incredible.
mjemirzian - uh, yes, it is seen as the black sheep of the series. It 100% most definitely is. It also is just from a technical standpoint. I loved the game, but it's the odd one out. And 5 is most definitely far far better. FM3 is also by far the easiest of the entire series. ROFUP I over and over and over and over. You win.
Hahaha no. I've gotten platinum on every mission in FM3, in every single possible story split. It's piss easy. I'm definitely in no way bad and you thinking I'm bad just proves you're absolutely terrible. Astonishingly terrible if you actually think the game is hard in any way, shape, or form.
Sales do not mean black sheep. It's not odd. It went back to most of what was created in FM1 and FM2, as well as doing a lot more for furthering the world story. FM3 was much more self-contained.
Front Mission 3's mechanics were largely different from the rest of the series. It is the black sheep. Just face it, accept it, and let it go. You've completely lost this.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
FM3 was my fave in the series and I'm eager to forget the borefest that was FM4!!
Now, if only we'd get some dedicated people like this to translate the Super Robot Wars games...
AGTP translated 3 SRW games
