Do you like playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 online with your friends? If you answered 'yes' to that question, then this news will probably excite you. (It certainly excites me!) This morning, EA announced that a four-player co-op mode called "Onslaught" is "coming soon" to the five-million-selling first-person shooter; it's the first time that a console Battlefield game has had co-op. You can view a teaser trailer for the mode above.
In Onslaught mode, you can team up with up to three buddies against "the enemy" -- that wording makes us think that this is a "survival" mode where you'll have to complete objectives while facing waves of AI enemies. Onslaught can be played on Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay, all of which have been "redesigned with new lighting, time of day, added vehicles and other effects." The mode will have its own leaderboards, and we figure it'll probably add pins and insignias as well.
Of note is that neither the press release nor the post on the BFBC2 blog mention the VIP program, which has been the source of all of the game's free-if-you-bought-a-new-copy DLC so far. So we're inclined to believe that Onslaught mode will be the game's first paid DLC (no confirmation on that yet, though). Also worth pointing out is the fact that the new mode will only be coming to the PS3 and 360 versions of the game, not PC -- at least at this point.
Who's ready for some four-versus-many action?

Yeeessssss....
Yeeesssss...
anyway,
I want this on my PC!
I haven't even started / touched the single player yet. Why would I want to fight bots online?
I paid for the game just like the console fellows did, why in ****n hell am I exluded again? And yes I do not care about the "you guys have AA, and better graphics" crap...
If I liked this game, and It is one of the few (3-4) games that I buy / year why am I forced to not have this again????
C'mon....
I'll pass.
It was also free in every single Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon known to man, on PC, and across all consoles.
It's sad we have to pay, or even "wait" for this, imo.
"Why would I want to fight bots online?"
If you get tired of the 0 IQ matches, you would have another way to play it. LFD2 didn't fail, yet it is botfight too ;>
I'll gladly pay for some BC2 co-op. I can't wait.
Really?.....
What happens when we have to pay for any online play of any kind, on top of Xbox Live? Or we have to pay
I don't think you understand the concept of entitlement. If these processes have been made available since the beginning of FPS games, and continue to be supported by a multitude of non-money grabbing developers (ie Valve, among others), they're a "standard".
Should we not speak out against getting rid of gold standards? Is it ok to charge for online play? Is it ok to strip characters from a fighting game, and charge $1 a pop, when they were previously cheat codes? When your game is sold %60 complete, and charging you $40 for the remaining part, on top of the additional $60 entry fee, will you care then?
Yes, we are entitled to 100% of a game at release, at the very least.
Posted with 0 offense.
Entitled? Grow the fuck up, no one is entitled to anything.
Consumer rights - it is a thing that exists.
I misspoke when I said we're entitled to 100% of a game. What I meant was as consumers, we shouldn't accept less and less product.
Are all the examples I gave to you "ok" with you? Would you be 100% ok with buying multiple $60 games, sold in 2 hour "episodes"? Would you be ok with paying $5 a multiplayer session? Would you be ok with buying a game for $60, only to have it expire in a few months (ie a $60 rental)? With the direction the industry is going, that's certainly a possibility.
Is there a line for you?
@Ward
What I was saying is what happens when EA starts charging a subscription fee for their games: then Activision: then Capcom: etc etc. EA is already testing the waters.
Bc2 was a complete game at launch. This is new content. It doesn't some how finish the single player story. It's not like it completes the game. It's just a new game mode you can buy "if you want to". Be careful you could get hurt if you fall off of your soap box:)
So true! It's just this, the recent bulk EA server shutdowns, and the EA Sports Online Play Certificate haven't been sitting well with me lately. I don't see EA letting up anytime soon, either.
I know exactly what entitlement means and expecting developers to use time, money and resources to create additional content for games and then give it away for free is exactly that.
You can talk theoretical extremes all you want but Bad Company 2 was a very complete game that was well worth its price and I'm more than happy to pay for an add-on co-op mode.
I think Magnalon has been playing to many Valve games and feels a sense of entitlement because of it.
Valve keeps fucking us over cause it's making every other non-indy developer look like total cunts every day.
Take the new EA online multiplayer situation. I actually agree with what they are doing as used game sales are really detrimental to new game sales, and the developer gets no profits from its sale. STILL though, they look like cunts compared to Valve cause they are so good. /circlejerk
Thats exactly what I said. Most of us are grown ups so we can decide what to pay for. In this case EA said PC isn't welcome, and that is the major problem...
they make the dlc for 360?
I've been playing FPS games my whole life, and things like this have been staples of the Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Delta Force series, and (insert any other PC FPS here) just about everything else.
I'm not even a huge Valve fan. This generation in general has just stripped away staple content, and nickel and dimed us.
there project ten dollar sounded like a good idea untill all the free stuff was shit
I've had enough of EAs business strategy anyway.
First they strip parts of games and try to convince you that it's a "privilege" to have these few shiny pieces they've taken out and promise that if you buy the game brand spanking new they'll give you those pieces plus more since you're a "VIP member".
At which point they throw you some playlist updates or a 30 minute mission and then go back to charging you for the rest.
And then they go off and take out MP in their sport titles unless you buy new essentially fucking gamefly users up the arse. And you can guarantee it's only a matter of time before that nice little feature gets put into other EA titles.
Makes you wonder how far EA will go.
@Magnalon
Comparing something with MW2 while the (unknown) price makes you sad. So...much...irony! :D
