I'm happy this was crisis: averted. I called it today that they'd rock a redesign, and I'm fucking thrilled they came through.
Did they move the headphone jack to directly under the dpad? I rest the bottom edge of the system on my pinkies. Now I'm sad.
Even after a year, and many free games later, it still hurts to know that if I had waited, I could have bought this colossus and still saved $50. Glad I bought it day 1, but I really want this (it's so pretty). I'll just force myself to wait for the (hopefully) inevitable 3DS Pro XL.

Why would they have even considered not packing in an AC adapter? It's a mandatory part of the system
Is there an option to transfer your data from your normal 3ds when u want to switch to a xl?

So basically they are aiming this console to people who already own the original... That's a HORRIBLE marked strategy. Only collectors buys multiple versions of the same console.
And wait WHAT! I don't get an AC adaptor with my 3DS XL because I live in Europe... I give Nintendo a month and I'm sure they will have changed their plans by then, we are talking about a fundemental thing to keep your console running here :/

I feel sorry for Europe and Japan. This is why you have to utilize your purchasing power, they think you will still buy a 200$ system even if it doesn't come with an integral component. Vita memory cards all over again, except only for EU and JP and on a somewhat lesser scale.
But the whole point is that so many people have already got them, and it's a waste to add to the crap in the box if so many people don't need it. Nintendo are obviously targeting people who have owned at least one of their handhelds since the DSi, and if they haven't, an adaptor's a pretty small price to pay.

I bet they will still charge more for the thing in europe even with the low euro, and the vat included in almost all european countries.
@REWQ, I'd say "on a somewhat LARGER scale", considering Vita's memory cards are not needed for some of the games, while power adapter is absolutely necessary.
I only hope that shops like Amazon will bundle it in for free, like it was with memory cards on Vita.

maybe it's just another instance of their desire to copy apple, didn't the original 'pods cheap out on the ac adapter?
also, I can understand how adding a 2nd nub now would be a massive kick in the balls to original owners (and isn't really necessary, as the games that used the ds screen showed) but If they did wouldn't there then be the possibility of using the 3ds as some 2nd mutant wiiu controller?

Why is this such a big deal? Just buy the fucking adapter _if you need it_ when you pick up the system!
so the hidden cost of $20 for a vita memory card pissed people off but having to buy a $20 adapter doesn't. I will never understand gamers
No thanks. I'll keep my 3DS and wait for the 3DSXLi with dual circle pads. I'm not getting sucked into buying 3-4 hardware revisions merely because it's a little bigger. Bigger = less portable.
The DSi is the only DS model I don't have, so I just assumed the power cables were different between the DSi and 3DS, just like the charger is different for every rechargeable NIntendo system except for the GBA SP and original DS. My DSi XL certainly has a different charger than my 3DS. Is the 3DS charger really the same as the DSi?
It seems like the Dock would be a waste of money. I do like the one for the 3DS but if you want to use the add on battery packs it seems like a waste of money.
Although if the XL has the awesome battery life that they're saying it might not need the battery packs.
