Doesn't really seem a lot different than the wii motion +. People who early adopted got rewarded by having to buy motion plus attachments that should have been built in from the beginning, while the newer tech has it built in. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they built in a second nub, even if only a few games take advantage of it, and a game or two will require it, just like only a few games took advantage of a motion plus, and a few games required it.
Welcome to Destructoid takedowndag!
I don't know where Occams is, but if you find him he'll give you a decoder ring, some cookies and a blowjob. Though I'd take a rain check on the last one, he's got braces and braces hurt.
Hope you enjoy your stay!
On-Topic: "EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY, EDDIE MURPHY! FUCK YOU!"
Well ... ya know. Fuck that. Why not just the extra circle pad? It didn't have to be a forced dichotomy like that.
@takedowndag: Welcome. I swear some of us are nice.
Same could be said about the motion plus. Only a few games actually used the motion plus, Nintendo still saw fit to building it in and make it the standard.
Also, what people don't get is that part of the reason that so few games support the circle pad pro is because it is not built in and therefore a game developer can't integrate it into their default control scheme without limiting their consumers to only circle pad pro owners. If it was built in from the beginning, you can bet nearly every 3d game would have a second nub integrated. This was really Nintendo's chance to nip this problem in the bud as early as possible, but the longer they wait, the more people people are going to have to buy clunky attachments once the 3DS has one killer app game that requires a second nub (I'm guessing The Legend of Zelda: the phantom nub)
To date, there are only four games that support it, no games that need it and no games supporting it that I know of after KH3D.
Played the demo for that? You don't need DA.
You are waiting for something that will not haopen because it will change the form factor of the 3DS and that would affect its portability. The CPPro already turns the 3DS into a brick that is not portable, but it does add that needed form factor that not even vita had.
Why would you want dual analog without the comfortable ergonomic design and weight of a Dual Shock. Vita does not even try to provide that because it would diminish its portability, yet as a result ANY time you need to use the touch screen you hadlve to throw off your rhythm by letting go of that second stick to touch the front or back, and let's not for get games that want you to pinch. It's just as annoying when it happens on 3DS games, though it lacks multi touch.
When people say they want dual analog on a handheld, they seriously don't think about this stuff, not to mention they're asking devs for a slew of lazy first and third person ports that don't suit 3DS or Vita's strengths.
Let's keep them different from consoles rather than force them to be more like them.
I believe you. I've been visiting the site for a few days and thought it'd be nice to feel apart of this awesome community you guys got goin' on here. Also excuse my awkward introduction.
Now they're releasing the 3DS XL without a 2nd analog, and releasing a CPP XL? That's so dumb, JH. It doesn't make sense. It's like if they'd released Wii Motion Plus, then released a more ergonomic Wii Remote with a better speaker that didn't include Wii Motion Plus, then released a 2nd Wii Motion Plus attachment. Makes no sense.
But adding the ccp on the 3ds xl would just make the issue worse by fracturing the audience since the xl doesn't seem as it's meant to replace the current model but rather to serve as another option.
And to be honest do handhelds really need a second anologue circle pad, whatever. Really?
Name five 3ds games that use the circle pad pro that wouldn't be remotely playable without it.
Hey baby you wanna ride this waffle Snake? Welcome to Destructoid where all your erotic fantasies will become a reality.
It wouldn't fracture the audience, 3DS owners could still buy a CPP and they could have the same functionality. It doesn't seem like it would fracture the audience more than the motion plus, or DSiware.
And yeah, handhelds kind of do need a second analogue stick nowadays because now they are to the point where 3D games are so prevalent. 3D games often control much better with a second stick for camera control, and I don't want to warp back to 1996 where 3D games are a pain to play because camera control is so limited and clunky.
I'm about to spout some serious crazy talk right here but i kinda agree with Miyamoto about using the touchscreen/gyroscope as a substitute (not a full on replacement) for camera control. It worked well enough for RE:revelations. Also the vita has dual sticks yet I can only think of a few games that absolutely need them.
Hm, I forgot about gyroscope controls to move the camera, I have no idea if that is a good solution or not, it could be, however using the touch screen for camera controls is definitely not a good universal solution. Your hand/stylus block part of the screen, you can't use buttons and hold the stylus at the same time, and it pretty much forces left handed people to buy the circle pad pro anyways.
Resident Evil Revelations isn't a great example to tout the virtues of only one stick, because the entire game has an over the shoulder camera with tank controls. That doesn't work for all 3D games, and that would be really limiting to 3rd party developers to expect them to make games as such.
@alex celeski
Like I've said a few times, it would alienate the original 3DS owners as much as it would alienate people who bought regular wii remotes, or people who bought regular DSes before the DSi. Nintendo is however alienating 3rd party developers who want to make 3D games but have to work around the obstacle of only having one nub. 3rd party developers either have 2 options, make the CPP mandatory, and limited their consumer base, or make it optional, and have their games slammed in reviews because the single nub control scheme is accepted as the default and controls poorly.
I knew it was BS from the start, but still.
