Want to know when you can get your grasping, sweaty hands on Nintendo's latest handheld? Beefy NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that the 3DS will be available in all territories by March 2011. That's not to say that some territories won't get it sooner than others, but that's the current cut-off date for the system's launch.
"We’ll be making individual market decisions in terms of what’s happening in Japan, what’s happening in the Americas, what’s happening in Europe," explains the meaty executive. "The one thing, for sure, is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011."
Reggie also added that the 3DS we have seen at E3 is a mere prototype, with a button layout that could change based on fan feedback. I actually loved the look of the 3DS when I got my own hands on it, but if Nintendo can think of ways to make it better, that's fine by me.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Great news for everyone!
Move: I'll get a cheap Eye, then get a Wand and use a PS3 controller for the auxiliary - with a coupon I can probably get a full Move setup for $65, and I already have Resident Evil 5 to play with it.
Natal: Most likely first month purchase to play with my wife.
I am preordering it ASAP.
I wish it would drop in Japan before August...we have a family friend over there studying who'd be able to pick one up.
If it didn't have region encoding that is.
I think $199 is a nice sweet spot for most consumers when it comes to portable devices. The PSP GO failed for more reasons than Sony not having a clear message and a lack of physical disks, I think $250 is too high for most people. Though I could be wrong. Maybe the 3DS is a good enough incentive.
with the wii, a full blown console, costing $200, i frankly would find $199 to be too much for a handheld device. personally, i would not get a 3DS till it dropped to somewhere in the neighborhood of $150
2) Send America a few orange ones!
3) Day one, midnight release if it happens.
That's your prerogative. A lot of people around here won't buy a Kinect for more than 80. But I think since the Wii itself cost 250 when it was released, it's not as though Nintendo is charging an equal amount for both as a rule. The DSi already only costs 30 dollars less than a Wii, I'd have a hard time believing if Nintendo wanted to charge the same as one of those for a vastly superior piece of technology.
$199 sounds like a blessing to me.
How long does it ussually take for nintendo to redesign it's handhelds?
Go back and check the redesign between the graphite/black look of the very first DS:

And the "I can't play it anymore, it's so awful" DS that was released a mere five months later:

It actually looks sleek now, doesn't it?
They can do a lot in a very short span of time.
DS' dpad compared to the dpad in a Wii Remote is really, really crappy feeling.
In this case though, I bet I'll be using the slider more, and the dpad for developer-mapped quick item type things, so I hope the slider feels as good as PSP's does.
And Please let me install games and play my Wii's Virtual Console stuff on it!
I find it odd that Nintendo still haven't released the full internal spec of the 3DS yet (this is usually done with all their consoles), let alone a fixed price point. If the spec has been released, its probably been done so to developers and publishers hush hush (don't be surprised if there's an NDA attached), to get games out for launch, but no one has spoke of these issues. If anyone has the details, point me in that direction.
As much as I want a 3DS, I need spec details, to judge what I'm going to be paying for and how user friendly it will be for me. It being 3D and GCubesque isn't enough for me.
