lol, yes it has (unfortunatly)
I hope it is semi-cracked, homebrew without the piracy. Would love to see some homebrew devs work some 3D magic.
If not to further undermine their rather weak attempt at puffing up their chests in satisfaction, a statement like "It's so sophisticated to explain why it's so sophisticated" doesn't really strike me as anything more than something an executive would say to be constituent to his or her ignorant shareholders. :\
*sigh*
It's the only reason the PS3 has survived as long as it has. Hell, the 360 had a similar system, but that was circumvented by DVD-ROM firmware lying to the hypervisor saying "LOL THIS CODE IS SIGNED 4 REALZ RUN PLZ" and the JTAG hack being a software bug.
As for home-brew, who knows how long till someone actually cracks that wide open.
I feel you. I always think of something else to say after I hit submit and then have a bajillion comments in one news post.
Depends completley on the architecture, though. If the copy protection scheme is cracked and it's off-the-shelf components, I wouldn't bet against a GBA-like turnaround from the emu scene.
You can't pirate DSiWare either. It's locked to a single system, and the hackers haven't found a way to remove the lock yet.
I have ideas on what they'd try for security, but they're all a bit loopy anyway.
I see what you mean. DSi-enhanced carts work, but with the DSi features unusable.
I think if there's a DSi/DSi Ware killer-app, things will progress a little quicker. not many people are probably bothered about the DSi functions of The Biggest Loser ;)
Also, saying piracy is theft is a big fallacy. I agree that it hurts developers but it always make me cringe when I hear that.
I tell ya, that's the biggest advantage flash cards have for me - not having to have multiple carts around for when I just so happen to want a shot at Advance Wars instead of playing Jump Ultimate Stars all the time. I already lost my copy of Jump Super Stars because I was carrying it in my pocket and it slipped out.
Also, it's f'en awesome being able to play Mega Man 2 or Garou: Mark of the Wolves anywhere.
Oh and lol @ MightyVince, piracy _IS_theft, sorry bro, justify it all you want.
Nintendo hasn't said the damn thing here, this is what a guy from THQ said, not Nintendo. Maybe you should read the story first, before coming to a absurd conclusion. I don't get why anyone (who doesn't already steal games) would have a problem with this? Piracy can kill a system, just take a look at the PSP as a example of it. The DS has only been hurt a little by it, but its still being hurt none-the-less. No one is saying Nintendo is going outright stop piracy, but if they can control it, then I for one, am all for it!
you wont win, im a pirate i know that
if you want to reduce piracy to acceptable levels, simply give buyers legitimate reasons to buy your games, or make effective content delivery platforms, like steam
Seriously, I've never seen someone playing the NDS in the train that didn't have a flashcard in it.
You know, to keep me from pirating... *creepy laugh*
Let's say you steal a bike from a shop. When you do that, not only you haven't paid for the bike but you removed the possibility for the shop to sell it to someone else.
When you download a game illegally, there's no direct loss from it. There is only a lack of profit. And a lot of times, a pirated game is NOT a lost sale because, personal experience speaking, many people that downloads pirated games never have the intention to buy the games they download.
The right word for it is "copyright infringment". And it's way less damageable than traditional theft, altough it's still is. I guess the definition of "theft" could be debated. Maybe it's because of those kind of ads that I'm jumpy to the use of the word "theft" and "stealing" to describe piracy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmZm8vNHBSU&feature=related).
I'm not pro-piracy or anything ; In fact, I agree that it sucks for developers. I just think that companies sometimes love to jump into easy conclusions and see a pirated game as a direct loss which brings draconian solutions that hurts them more than anything (bad rep from legitimate users, etc.). I applaud Nintendo's efforts, I just hope that they can make a system that doesn't hurt legitimate users.
Good on Nintendo for trying to combat piracy, though. You can't blame 'em for trying.
