3DS might someday support 3D video chat photo

[Header image unrelated, except that it's immediately what I visualize when I hear the above headline]

The possible applications for the 3DS are intriguing and I'm sure all sorts of good ideas will spring to software developers minds as they work with it. Speaking with Forbes magazine, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata mentioned an idea that is clearly not good but will no doubt be implemented by someone somewhere because, for some inexplicable reason, people seem to want it: 3D video chat.

No reason why the new handheld shouldn't be able to handle it. But that's always the problem with mad scientists, isn't it? Always asking, "why not?" I'm must be in a silent minority by not wanting my ugly mug plastered on someone else's screen to watch every nervous or awkward thing I might do in the course of a normal phone conversation. Distance separates us for a reason, people.

None of this is to suggest Nintendo is actively working towards 3D video chat capability on the 3DS. Iwata might have just been throwing that out there because it's something that the device could conceivably do that the people who read Forbes can visualize.

"No reason why the new handheld shouldn't be able to handle it." Apart from the fact that there's no front-facing 3D camera. I suppose you could still do it with the model shown at E3 if you were standing in front of a mirror, though.

Uh huh. Like how the Gamecube Broadband Adapter might someday work with more than three (two?) games. At least we won't be down an extra forty bucks when this doesn't happen.

How cool did video chat look in 2001: A Space Odyssey & Blade Runner. How rubbish & pointless it is in reality.

I can't wait to 3D video call my partner and see how far my cock sticks out of her screen!

Even with the 3d effect slider to the max, I doubt she would see anything.

Lewd 3D porn chat...that'd be hot!!! I just wish my wife wasn't such a prude I'd buy her one. Damn it I need a mistress who's as into this stuff as much as I am.

I mentioned this would be a great feature to some friends moments after the systems penultimate reveal. Unfortunately I also notice with a sole front facing camera, 3d video chatting would be impossible. Hopefully the final design has two front facing cameras.

@boblemoche
It would be the first true case of 2.5d in that his cock would actually go into the screen.

For atastysammich,
There where 4 online GC games: PSO 1&2, PSO 1&2 Plus, PSO 3, and Homeland (JP Only)
There where also 3 LAN only games: Mario Kart, Kirby Air Ride, and 1080 Avalanche.

The stuff that people are going to do...well Sexualchocolate is already thinking of it.

Sounds like Nintendo's still a little nervous about Apple's iPhone.

Am I the only one that thinks that would be totally awesome? Nintendo must now add an additional camera to the inside.
