The original Gameboy had a revision (2 if you count the GBC-- which was more of a DSi). The GBA had 2.
The DS' s launch line-up was an utter shitshow.
And honestly. Name a launch in the past 15 years that was really stunning.
People aren't buying these things at launch because they're super stoked about Nintendogs. We're getting this because we loved a ton of DS titles and are pretty sure they'll have their 3DS debut.
And also, for me anyway, putting my money down on the future of big portable titles. While I lovd shit like Angry Birds and Game Dev Story, fuck me if that's the only future of portable games. I want action games. I want games that feel like they shouldn't have cost 99 cents or were only meant to waste time while you shit. It's an investment in the future of these games.
Not that I really feel the iPhone will "kill" the 3DS. Because that's a moronic thought.
Stores made it extremely clear that they weren't going to have launch day copies for non reservers. They didn't lie about that.
As soon as I knew the price, I slapped some money down on my 3DS. I will be there for mind on launch day.
"Stores here in Tokyo made it clear that there was only enough for pre-order customers."
As did the rest of the nation. Signs generally read like "We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but this store will not be selling 3DS units on launch days that haven't already been reserved. We will be taking reservations for the next shipment at a later date".
Japanese people can read, hence they didn't line up for nothing. The system is still sold out nation-wide.
I don't get what you mean. The thing sold out quickly, so how does that equate to "people waiting for a redesign" in your mind? The preorders sold out, so people knew, not to even bother to go out to try and get one yet. Nintendo is shipping out 1.5 million units to Japan alone, from now until the end of March. So now that launch is over, the next shipment we'll probably see the typical chaos of people lining up to buy them then!
lol. That's hilarious.
Maybe this medium reception is due to a high MSRP and the fact that mobile gaming is shifting to stuff like iPad, iPhone, and Android devices?
There's no denying a major and sudden shift in interest here. Last night I was at a vietnamese restaurant where a table of 12 (with 6 kids no less!) were all playing on their parents iPhones. That's saying something. This same table two-three years ago would've been armed with DS systems or GBA's. I've seen if frequently in the last few months. Kids are grabbing their parents phones in favor of dragging along a DS or PSP. Or asking for their own iPod Touch...
Its not about Nintendo fans getting angry, its about people being too stupid to read what the article is about, before commenting on it and looking like a bunch of retards. Saying that something isn't selling well, because its sold out, is just the stupidest logic, that I have ever heard. That's like saying people are fat, because they don't eat enough. No you morons, its the opposite!
Second, even just in my own household, my boys JUST bought iPod Touches knowing full well that they would not be able to buy a 3DS now. Why? Because they can get games for 99 cents instead of 50 dollars.
Are the games of comparable quality? Actually, they aren't as far off as some might think. Game Dev Story is at least as interesting as any Nintendogs or any other remotely comparable genre related game.
Fragger, Plants VS Zombies, Cut The Rope - pretty entertaining stuff. Not epic like a Zelda game, or deep like a Mario game, but similarly addicting and entertaining. And at 99 cents you can always get fresh.
Besides, iOS also does the Internet, Skype, guitar chord book software, and a million other apps.
usually here in the US people rush on things, items get thrown off etc
