3D Realms is the biggest tease ever photo

You see that horrible looking picture up there? It's an actual, 100% official image from Duke Nukem Forever. 3D Realms president George Broussard posted it himself on Job Seeker. The image is apparently in game and after ten years, that's the best they could finally show to us. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the graphics from the image. The game could have 32X graphics for all I care now. I'm bashing the fact that after all of this time, THEY ONLY HAVE ONE PICTURE TO SHOW US!  I loved Duke Nukem: Time to Kill and of course Duke Nukem 3D. All they have been doing is running this franchise into the ground.

So what do you think? 3D Realms also took their sweet time with Prey. It was in development for eight years and when it did finally come out, it was pretty good.

<cough>

I'm with the "when its done" crowd. I hope one day it'll come out and have the Duke humor and just be entertaining to play.

Regardless of the delays and jokes at least 3DRealms doesn't shove screen caps and media in everyones face every six months. If they want to take their own sweet time with it and not dick tease while they do it then fair play to them.

I like how TigerZ points out that they're running the franchise into the ground. Really though, 3D Realms is doing the exact opposite of running it into the ground.

Does anyone really think they'll be able to deliver on 10 years of expectations?

If its a solid game and has the same Duke humour I don't see why not. If people are expecting life changing orgasms when it finally gets released then they're probably used to that feeling of disappointment already.

And yes, see CoD, MoH for run the franchise into the ground with yearly expansion packs, sorry, new versions.

Correction. Prey was a dead project for a while, 3d realms gave the concept to Human Head, who licensed the Doom 3 engine and made a game with it

The only way they could exceed my expectation is if they actually release the game. You guys STILL care about the actual game? I care more about the idea of this more than anything. Talk about the most genius marketing EVER. If they DO release a game, it will sell like CHOCOLATE COVERED HOTCAKES wrapped in MONEY

Duke Nukem Forever? Finally? Yeah, don't care. Thanks.

Yes I liked Duke Nukem and wouldn't mind a sequel. I'm not "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!!!!" about it but when it comes I'll be wanting to check it out not because of the time its taken* but more because I liked the original.

*I say Fuckin A to 3DRealms for doing whatever the hell they want, they seem to be living off their own buck and aren't milking the 'Forever' game just to score some money out of our pocket. I hope they've spent the last 10 years spunking their money on hookers, booze and lap dances.

Prey was shitty.

I wouldn't say it was shitty. It had faults but it was a solid build. I'd buy it again if I had the choice with hindsight.

They have started over on the engine multiple times, this image looks like nothing i have seen before. Lets hope for more.

I can say this: I had more fun playing prey than I did when playing Doom 3. :/

They are probably just like "Oh shit, what do you mean the Unreal Engine 2 is outdated? There's a new one? Fine, throw it away, we gotta start Duke from scratch".

To me, that "screenshot" looks like someone took an upclose picture of an action figure then threw on some Photoshop filters for good measure.

I hope it does get released and is decent. IMO Nukem 3D is still to this day one of the most fun FPSs to play. Sure it is looking dated but no other game has been crammed so full of humor and injokes and is also a great game in it's own right.

I too doubt that is an ingame shot. Looks very prerendered to me. Is it just me or is the Duke looking old? maybe they are doing an MSG4..

How in the world are these people still employed? If it took me this long to finish a project at my job my boss would have fired me a looooong time ago.

i think a quote from george broussard from 3d realms comes in handy here:

"the problem is that when we show it, people are going to be like, 'yeah, whatever'. honestly, at this point we just want to finish it."

I'm only going to buy it if they license G'n'R's new album for the music. I somehow think that "Chinese Democracy" would be a perfect fit for the game.

If the game is well made and retains the humor of it's predecessor, they could have a winner on their hands. The FPS genre takes itself way to seriously, just as it back when DN3D was released.

There is so much more stuff out these days that could be referenced and parodied in Forever. Both games and movies. Thing is, lots of Duke fans will have moved on to other things after the huge gap between games, they really need to make sure it appeals to the new generation of gamers.

The pic in this post looks more like an action figure ("IT'S NOT A DOLL!") than a screenshot.

CTZ is right, people should just perhaps give the game a chance. Sure it's been a while but they must have been doing something with it to take so long. And yes, I know that some of you are going to say something like "what they are NOT doing with it" but then again, why the hell would they just let their most profitable game character just sit there and rot over ten years? It would be incredibly stupid to do that and I doubt that Mr. Broussard is that stupid either.

Anyways, I'll most definitely be buying it as Duke Nukem 3D was a childhood memory of mine. Fav quotes:

"I wanna kick ass and chew bubblegum but I'm all out of gum!"
"Let God sort 'em out!"
"I'm Duke Nukem and I'm coming for the rest of you alien bastards!"
"Oooh! That's gonna leave a mark!"
"Hehehe. What a mess!"

I'm sorry but I could not resist going on a nostalgia trip there.

I wonder how well the character will have aged in the 11 years since the first game came out. I loved the hell out of Duke back when I was in high school, and have great memories of LAN parties with my friends (stadium level ftw). But in retrospect the character was just a shallow rip off of Bruce Campbell from Evil Dead and Roddy Piper from They Live. I hope 3D Realms has spent the time not only making sure Duke's engine & gameplay hold up, but also crafting a hilarious story. Duke only really worked because he was an over the top parody of action heroes, and they need to remember that.

I still think Shadow Warrior was funnier though. :)

They have to have Duke's humor, crazy weapons, and some very squishy alien scum to blow up.

Oh yeah, and hot chicks to save.

Then it will rock.

"In June, in a filing with the SEC, Take-Two revealed that they had renegotiated the deal and will receive $4.25 million instead of $6 million upon the release of the game.[22] The filing also revealed that Take-Two was offering a $US 500,000 bonus if Forever was commercially released by December 31, 2006.[23] However, Broussard denied the rumors that DNF would be released, saying that 3D Realms never cared for or asked for the bonus. He stated that he would "never ship a game early...for 500K."[24]"

That, is a story of a man dedicated to making a good game.
